Yorkshire self catering holiday cottages

Welcome to Murk Head - Self-Catering Holiday Cottages in the North Yorkshire National Park Exquisite luxury self-catering holiday cottages, superbly set on a 230 acre private estate with stunning views down the dale towards the North Yorkshire coastal resort of  Scarborough and in every aspect towards the breathtaking woodland and forests of the North Yorkshire National Park and, of course, the North Yorkshire Moors.

The Heart of North Yorkshire

The Murk Head Holiday Cottages are approached by a private road and a picturesque stone bridge over a tributary of the river Derwent - along both banks of which guests have free fishing and easy walking to the charming wooden footbridge and beyond.  On crossing the stone bridge a drive lined with fruit bushes, trees and rhododendrons sweep up to the stone farmhouse, a 17th century listed building, and the heart of your stay in North Yorkshire, the Murk Head Self-Catering Holiday Cottages themselves.

Self-Catering Luxury

Each of our four luxury Self-Catering Holiday Cottages, Painter's Cottage, The Stables, Mill Cottage and Honeysuckle Cottage, has been exquisitely converted from 18th century farm buildings.  They are exceedingly comfortable, each has a 4 star rating and all are designed internally for your comfort.  Each Self-Catering Holiday Cottage has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, living rooms tastefully furnished and of generous proportions and kitchens fully equipped for your self-catering holiday with, ovens, hobs, microwaves, dishwashers, etc.  Each holiday cottage enjoys unlimited car parking, and pets are welcome by prior arrangement.

North Yorkshire and Beyond

In the unlikely event that you should tire of the gently rolling landscape on your doorstep, the North Yorkshire coastal towns of Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby are all just a short drive away.  The North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Pickering is a joy and the Jurassic coast is just a few miles drive.

We purchased Murk Head Farm in 1994, as a run down farm house set in 160 acres of very beautiful North Yorkshire countryside and some derelict barns! Today it is far from this.

From four farm buildings to four star accommodation

The location of this farm was crying out to be enjoyed so we converted the four redundant buildings into self-catering holiday cottages. The large cart shed, which also contained stables and a mill were converted into Stables, Mill and Painters holiday cottages. The remaining piggery is now unrecognisable as our single story luxury Honeysuckle Cottage.

The finest self-catering holiday cottages in
North Yorkshire

We have built our self-catering holiday cottages to a standard that is comfortable and full of luxury, we would be very happy to live in any one of them.

North Yorkshire family values

My husband Robin farms the land with the help of our twin boys (at weekends) Henry and Giles, who now both teenagers, while our daughter Antonia is now at Cambridge University. We are a family run business and have a lovely black Labrador, named Pye, who is very much part of our family too.
