Willy Wilcox and Quay Cottages are situated on Polperro's outer harbour wall - these are the last two cottages in Polperro. They look across the harbour, over the beach and out to sea. You will not find accommodation closer to the sea nor so full of history!

Willy Wilcox - after whom one of the cottages is named - was trapped by the sea, while bringing contraband into the cave, deep under the house. During winter storms, heavy wooden shutters protect the windows, as the waves break on the rocks below.

Inside, you can sit in front of a roaring open fire. You are snug and safe behind thick stone walls, which have faced the sea and been home for fishermen for hundreds of years. On fine days, you can watch the fishermen preparing their boats and landing their catches

These must be the most popular and sought after holiday cottages in Cornwall - there is rarely a week when they are not both  occupied.  These cottages are large but, out of season, they are priced for just 2 people.

Both cottages feature a wealth of tradition, with exposed beams, open fires and timeless views of the harbour, cliffs and sea.

There is a new terrace at the back of the cottages, which forms a lovely shared BBQ area, with garden furniture and tables.

Willy Wilcox had a full renovation in 1998. Regular guests were relieved that we had retained all its old character, nooks and crannies, including the door that is reputed to give secret access to the smugglers cave, below the house.

The cottage has a large drawing room with a Cornish stone fireplace and a massive copper hood. The kitchen/dining room is right over the cave. There are now 4 bedrooms, all with subdued lighting - The Harbour room (en-suite), The Beach Room, The Quay Room and The Boat Room in the style of a ship's cabin.

The Beach Room, on the South end of the cottage is closer to the sea than you would be in many lighthouses.  A side door leads from this wonderful bedroom up to the side terrace, overlooking the sea. Tiptoe out in the moonlight and share a bottle of wine or a nightcap.

This traditional, 400 year old, fisherman's stone cottage has a large drawing room on the middle floor, with low timber beams, an open fireplace and a formal dining area. All its windows (except the bathroom) look out over the beach, the harbour and the sea. You can watch the boats unloading their catches or preparing for sea, just as they did a 100 years before.

In winter, on the high tide and when the sea is rough, you will be lashed by spray.

You will be able to imagine life, as a keeper, on the Eddystone Lighthouse.  This flashes some 14 miles off-shore.

The fully fitted kitchen is on the ground floor and has a small breakfast table. There is a downstairs bedroom with double plus single beds and a wash hand basin. There are two "upstairs" bedrooms, one double and the other a single with an additional child bed. There is a beautiful bathroom upstairs. The cottage is full of nooks, crannies and character. Quay Cottage has a faithful following who return every year.

GENERAL NOTES APPLICABLE TO BOTH COTTAGES:  Willy Wilcox & Quay each have a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, drier, microwave, food processor etc.

Furnishing, throughout, offers taste, comfort and character. Lighting is subdued and dimmer controlled. There are storage heaters in reception rooms, (plus in some bedrooms) and both cottages are very snug and warm. Two televisions, (three in Willy) and a video recorder should cater for different program tastes. Each cottage has a payphone and a number on which you can be contacted.

The swimming pool and leisure facilities at Lanlawren Farm are only about 3 miles (10 minutes) drive away.

CHANGEOVER DAY IS FRIDAY IN WILLY WILCOX and SATURDAY IN QUAY
