Here at the family run West Banbury Farm Cottages set in 6 acres of grounds in West Devon you’ll find everything you need to enjoy an idyllic rural holiday.

We have 10 individually styled cottages set around 2 courtyards. Seven have been converted sympathetically from traditional farm buildings dating back to the 16th Century. Three new cottages have been added, all with plenty of character built in.

The charming cottages are all comfortably and individually furnished, and are well-equipped: whether you want to do a quick tea for the children or something a little fancier for the adults, you’ll find everything you need.

Getting here is easy and we’re ideally placed to explore the rest of Devon and Cornwall.  Alternatively, relax in the grounds and enjoy our many on-site facilities

We aim to make the cottages as comfortable as possible for all-year round holidays. They retain much of their character with exposed stonework and vaulted ceilings. We look after the cottages ourselves and you will find them spotlessly clean and well looked after.

All cottages have electricity, night storage heaters and heated towel rails by meter reading, double glazing, fridge/freezer (or separate fridge and freezer) washer/dryer, radio/CD, TV, microwave, shared payphone, garden furniture, shared barbecues

Jacob’s Pen is a very comfortable single storey stone barn conversion. It is ideal for two couples or families with older children since the second bedroom is approached via a separate entrance and is not interconnecting with the rest of the cottage. Its open plan, well-equipped kitchen, dining and living area has much exposed stonework.

The first bedroom is twin bedded with an en-suite bathroom with a power shower over the bath. The second (separate) bedroom is a double with an en-suite shower room and its own tea and coffee making facilities.

The south facing patio area to the front of the cottage overlooks the courtyard

Plough Barn is literally where the ploughs were kept, although no longer of course!  It’s now restored as a very comfortable single storey cottage with open plan kitchen, dining and living area. Much of the stonework has been left exposed.

It has one double bedroom and one twin bedded room, plus a bathroom with a power shower over the bath. Outside is a sitting area looking out over the courtyard and the surrounding countryside

Dove Cottage was the original farm stone cottage, now restored to create a very cosy atmosphere. Entrance is via a porch, ideal for storing all those muddy wellies and sandy buckets and spades. This opens into an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room complete with inglenook fireplace with its original bread oven and a wood burning stove. (The first supply of logs is free and subsequently available at cost.) A door leads into a small, very private south facing garden room which in turn opens onto a private lawned area with lovely views over the surrounding countryside.

Upstairs, you’ll find a double and a twin bedded bedroom plus a bathroom with a power shower over the bath

The Granary is a lovely detached stone building which retains the original external stone steps up to what is now a double bedroom. Downstairs consists of a very comfortable and beamed open plan sitting/dining room with a well equipped kitchen area. A twin bedded bedroom is on the ground floor along with the bathroom with a power shower over the bath. The double bedroom upstairs is accessible from inside the cottage and is very roomy with a four poster bed. The external door leads to a small balcony at the top of the Granary steps affording spectacular views.

You can also enjoy the views from the lawned south facing sitting out area just outside the front door

Harness Barn is a two-storey barn conversion. The open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area is spacious and features exposed stone and large oak beams.

Upstairs you will find a double and a twin bedroom plus a bathroom with power shower over the bath. In addition there is a single fold away bed with an interior sprung mattress.

The front door opens out onto a sitting out area in the courtyard

Hay Barn is a light and spacious two-storey barn conversion with lovely original oak beams.  The open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room has often been used as a venue for meals and parties by families and friends booking a number of cottages.

Upstairs are a double and two twin bedrooms (one particularly spacious) and a bathroom with a power shower over the bath.

Outside is a patio looking onto the courtyard

Wilhayes Barn is our largest property and has stunning views to Dartmoor. The large open plan kitchen, dining, sitting room is overlooked by an impressive galleried sitting area, to create a big, open and airy space. Off the main room are two twin bedrooms and a bathroom with a power shower over the bath, while upstairs there is a master double bedroom with an en-suite shower room with a toilet. The galleried sitting area (with a second TV) provides additional space and includes a single sofa bed. A further single bed is kept in an alcove off this area.

The arrangement of space in Wilhayes makes it very popular with parties of two families, and the main living area has often been used as a venue for dinners and parties by groups booking several cottages.

Outside is a patio area to marvel at the spectacular views

Mallard is one of our three newer cottages.  It is very light and enjoys lovely views over the surrounding countryside. The ground floor is open plan, and upstairs the bedroom has twin beds, although these can be made up as a 6’ double by prior arrangement. The bathroom is very spacious and has a thermostatic shower over the bath.

Outside is a patio area from which you can enjoy the views

Mandarin is another of our newer cottages and has stunning panoramic views through the largely glass wall at the front of the property. From here you can stroll out onto the patio and make the most of the views.

The cottage is particularly light and airy. The open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room includes a sofa bed (for +1).  You will find a twin room upstairs (this can be made up to a 6’ double by prior arrangement) and a spacious bathroom with a thermostatic shower over the bath

Muscovey is the third of the newer cottages and has a double bedroom with a four poster bed. The spacious bathroom has a thermostatic shower over the bath.

Downstairs is the open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area which opens out onto a sunny patio

There’s a lot more to West Banbury than just our beautiful cottages. For the more energetic, work out in our fitness room, or enjoy a swim and sauna, or a game of tennis or pitch & putt. If all that sounds a bit too much like hard work, unwind and relax in our peaceful grounds, which extend to six acres, visit the wildlife pond, or admire the wonderful views to Dartmoor.

And you won’t have to worry about the children. One of the many joys of West Banbury is that children can enjoy their freedom in safety. Car parking is away from the cottages, and with the play area, pool, pitch & putt and tennis, there’s plenty to exhaust even the most energetic! We also have a good supply of books, games and toys for those quieter moments.

We live at West Banbury too and are always on hand, able to give advice on where to go or where to eat. We want you to enjoy your holiday to the full, and whether you’re a couple or a family with children we think you’ll find everything you need right here
