Whitley Elm Cottages offer self catering holiday cottages in Warwickshire.
With part of the ancient Forest of Arden as a backdrop, these four holiday cottages have been converted from a 250 year old barn in the grounds of this heritage property, an old Tudor Manor House dating back to 1453. Situated in the rural hamlet of Mousley End and surrounded by the beautiful Warwickshire countryside the cottages are easily approached along a quiet winding country lane. In the main house, in Elizabethan days, William Shakespeare reputedly drank his ale.
The cottages have been converted from mid 18th century listed agricultural buildings.
The four cottages are named after Shakespearean heroines and offer delightful accommodation. Well furnished with colour co-ordinated fabrics and fitted carpets, there are pretty bedrooms, while much detail and character has been retained in exposed beams and stonework.
The naturalist Edith Holden, walked these fields and woods recording her observations, now published as the charming book "The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady". If you wish to enjoy the historic heart of England and the numerous places of interest in this exciting area, then you would will find these cottages an ideal base for exploration.
This historic site dates back to Anglo-Saxon times. The hamlet of Mousley End, derives its name from an Anglo-Saxon-Thomas de Moulsoe. His family lived here with 6 other families in 'hovels'.
William Shakespeare's grandfather's brother was the gamekeeper in the adjoining hamlet of Wroxall. William's sister was the Abbess at Wroxall Abbey. Shakespeare Hall is close to the cottages.
