Heath Farmhouse

Heath Farm Cottages, Plumpton, Sussex

Heath Farm is a small family run working farm producing mainly eggs from two flocks of free range hens. We also rear free range roasting chickens and we have a flock of Beulah Speckleface sheep for lamb and mutton. We have two luxury self-catering cottages to let for holidays.

The cottages have been formed from the conversion of a barn housing a former milking parlour and working horse stables. This has been made possible through a grant made available by DEFRA under the England Rural Development Programme. The Tourist Board have assessed the cottages as 4 star in their grading system. One cottage has an M2 mobility rating and the other is also suitable for persons with limited mobility. Please click the accommodation button for further details

We are situated in a very attractive part of the country, just outside the proposed South Downs National Park, fifteen miles north of Brighton, and within easy reach of London, Gatwick Airport, and the south coast. Details of the cottages and facilities can be found by clicking the cottages link, and a listing of places to visit and things to do is on the 'Local attractions' button.

Whilst most of our eggs go to a local wholesaler, they are available through a few local shops, and we sell eggs, boiling and roasting chickens, mutton and lamb at four Farmers' Markets - Lewes, Wallington, Epsom, and Milford (near Godalming).

We have two luxury cottages available for rent: both have been rated as 4 star. Both cottages are on one level and are suitable for persons with limited mobility, and Stable Cottage has an M2 mobility rating.

Parlour cottage has two bedrooms with en-suite facilities, one with double bed, the other with two singles. A cot is also available.

Stable cottage has three bedrooms, one double, one twin and one single. The single room also has an extra bed to accommodate another person if required. A cot is also available.

Both cottages have several French doors opening out onto a shared courtyard equipped with tables and chairs, planting in tubs, and barbeque facilities. There is also a separate area of lawn and trees. Both cottages have washing machines and there is a tumble dryer if required located in a common utility room accessed from outside.

Children are welcome but we regret we do not accept pets. The cottages are non-smoking throughout.

The farm totals 35 acres and much of the land is given over to free range chickens. There is a flock of about 30 Speckleface breeding ewes and these start lambing at the end of March. In the Summer we make hay on some of our fields and also bale straw from a neighbouring farm.

Visitors are free to walk around the farm but should be aware that children need to be supervised for their own safety. Climbing up high on bales of hay and straw is good fun but can be very dangerous and is to be discouraged. We are also happy to show visitors round the laying hen houses to see where the eggs are laid and how they are collected and graded. We may also have some new chicks in which are usually a favourite with  children of all ages.

Parlour Cottage has been formed from what was originally the farm milking parlour in the 1950s.
The front door opens into a hall and through into a large living room with two pairs of French doors opening out onto an enclosed courtyard. The room is really comfortable, with Laura Ashley sofa and chairs, and is fully carpeted. There is a dining area leading through to a fully fitted kitchen. The room has ample storage space and TV & video/DVD player.

Off the living room is a fully carpeted double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. The bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, etc. and a hairdryer.

The level entry shower room has a high quality thermostatic shower and is large enough to accommodate wheelchair users. The room can be fully equipped with dropdown support arms and shower chair when required. A shaver socket is provided.

Leading off the hall is the other bedroom with twin beds, and an en-suite bathroom. The extra wide bath is equipped with a high quality thermostatic push-button shower. A shaver socket is provided.

The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, with freezer compartment, dishwasher, ceramic hob, grill, oven with grill, microwave and washing machine. A tumble dryer is available in the separate laundry room accessible from outside, where damp coats, boots etc. can also be left to dry out if necessary.

The furnishings are of a very high standard throughout the cottage. Full oil-fired central heating, with individual thermostatic radiator valves,  is provided in all rooms.

Stable Cottage
Part of this cottage is made up from the rest of the farm milking parlour with the remainder being a former stable used by the horses that  worked the farm in the 1950s.

The front door opens into a hall giving access to the two smaller bedrooms, the shower room and the L-shaped living room. The living room faces south and  opens out through French doors into an enclosed courtyard. The room is comfortably furnished  with Laura Ashley chair and sofas, and is fully carpeted. There is a dining area overlooking the garden to the north. The room has ample storage space and TV & video/ DVD player.

Off the living room is a fully carpeted double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. The bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe etc. and a hairdryer. The bathroom has an extra wide luxury bath equipped with a high quality thermostatic push-button shower. A shaver socket is provided.

The second bedroom has twin beds, and the third bedroom is a single. However the single bed has a second bed beneath which can be pulled out to accommodate an extra person if required. Across the hall from these two bedrooms is the shower room.

The level entry shower room has been designed to accommodate wheelchair users and can be fully equipped with dropdown support arms and shower chair when required. A shaver socket is provided.

The kitchen off the living room is fully equipped with refrigerator, with freezer compartment, dishwasher, ceramic hob, oven with grill, microwave and washing machine.
