If you would like to get away from the
stress, buzz and continual interruptions of everyday life, to enjoy the
tranquility and beauty of a bygone age, Port Isaac provides the peace you need.
Port Isaac is on the North Coast of Cornwall nestled in the
shelter of a natural harbour. Historically Port Isaac was a haven for smuggling
and regular visits from the press gang, making it one of Cornwall's more
colourful ports. Surrounded by rugged cliffs, narrow winding lanes lead you down in to a maze
of whitewashed cottages and secret gardens that climb the steep valley slopes.
At the centre of the village is the Platt, where the fisherman land their daily
catch of fish, crab and lobsters, as they have done for generations.
Nestled in the very heart of old Port Isaac, just a stone's throw from the
harbour, stands our timber-beamed cottage - St Samson, in Dolphin Street. It
dates back to the early 1600's, when the press gang and smugglers were hard at
work. St Samson has a fascinating history of its own. The large kitchen-diner
was once a stable block, then the village lamp store and the bathroom was the
old boat cellar. The upper floors of the cottage were once the home of Bernard
Baker, our key holder, he was one of nine children in the family to be born and
raised in St Samson and Port Isaac. Many of the beams in the cottage are
salvaged from old sailing ships; hence the odd notches and holes. Today St
Samson is a spacious, well-equipped, private holiday home offering comfortable
accommodation for up to six people.
Through an entrance porch you enter a large fully furnished (22' x 12')
beamed kitchen-diner, which is equipped to a high standard to cater for six,
including a microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble
dryer. At one end of the room are two armchairs, where you can sit and browse
through our information pack whilst someone else cooks your dinner! From the kitchen a flight of stairs leads you up to a pleasant, comfortably
furnished, beamed sitting room with colour TV. Through a latched door, off the
sitting room, stone steps lead you into the bath/ shower room which has an
instant hot water sports power-shower. Following the passage off the sitting
room is the main double bedroom, which has a large wardrobe and dressing table,
with ample drawer space. A double duvet and four pillows are provided, but no
linen. At the end of the passage is another flight of stairs up into the second
bedroom, with four single beds and ample drawer and hanging space. A single
duvet and pillow is provided on each bed, but no linen. The cottage is powered by electricity through a £1 coin meter in the
stairwell. During the winter months, we cover the 'night-storage-heating' cost.
There are also two additional electric heaters available for your use, should
you need further heating at any time of the year.
St Samson is a NON SMOKING let and we are unable to take animals. Telephone 0117-973-4883
