The Garden Cottage is an architect’s own elegantly styled hideaway in the middle of nowhere but only 4 miles from Taunton and the M5.
Built in 2002, the spacious accommodation has stunning views across a tranquil landscape and is set in 6 acres of garden, meadow, ponds and woodland. Sleeps up to 7 with a large double bedroom with en-suite, a family room with double and single beds, a shower room, lounge with sofa bed, vaulted ceiling, oak floor, open fireplace, piano as well as hi-fi, TV, books, games and magazines. The fully fitted kitchen opens off the lounge and is well equipped. There is also a small utility area with a washing machine and drying facilities are available.
There is access by arrangement to a heated indoor swimming pool in the owners’ converted barn close by and guests are welcome to explore the grounds which lead onto a public footpath. The grounds are teaming with wildlife from rabbits, badgers and deer to buzzards, heron and even an occasional kingfisher.
Location : Rural but only 5 minutes from M5 (J25) and only 10 minutes from Taunton. An ideal base to explore the coasts of South Devon, Dorset and Somerset as well as the Quantocks, the Blackdowns and the Mendips.
Places of interest
There are scores of country houses, museums, gardens, ancient churches, historic
towns, castles, cider makers, honey farms, etc. all within an hour's drive.
Touring & exploring
Both places make an ideal centre for touring and exploring, with easy access to
the South Devon and Dorset coast around Lyme Regis and Sidmouth. Alternatively
the North Somerset coast from Exmoor to Weston-super-Mare can easily be reached.
Walking
The Quantocks, the Brendon Hills, the Mendips, the Blackdowns and Exmoor all
offer fantastic walking, and are easily accessed. In addition the Somerset
levels are nearby. If you prefer the coast, there are numerous coastal
footpaths.
Taunton
The nearest main town is Taunton - the county town of Somerset and also the home
of Somerset County Cricket. It offers a thriving market, excellent theatre, a
multi-screen cinema, bowling alley, fine churches, parks, the River Tone, and
the Bridgwater and Taunton canal.
