Self-catering accommodation in North Devon!

This spacious self-catering accommodation is in the village of Appledore on the North Devon coast. It is just 30 seconds from the seafront in one of Appledore's quaintly narrow, traffic-free thoroughfares. From the front rooms of the house you have views of the beaches and village of Instow, North Devon.

The Old Rechabite Hall is in the centre of a conservation area. This outstanding holiday accommodation has been completely renovated and furnished for that special holiday for family and friends.

The Little White Fishing Village

Appledore was described by Charles Kingsley as the "little white fishing village". It is full of olde worlde charm with narrow cobbled lanes and small fishermen's cottages. Set at the meeting point of the Taw and Torridge rivers, Appledore has a lovely harbour and was once famous for smuggling.

Fishing and boatbuilding have been Appledore's main industries for centuries, and more recently it has become an exciting and unspoilt holiday venue catering for many interests including the visual arts, walking, cycling, golf, sea fishing, sailing, and surfing. The sheltered sandy beaches across the harbour at Instow are good for those who just want to relax by the sea. Very nearby are the Tarka Trail for safe cycling, cycle hire, birdwatching and walking, The Big Sheep, Dartington Crystal and Atlantic Village tourist attractions.

The view of Instow from Appledore is beautiful, at high tide a Ferry Service operates every 20 minutes between the two villages proving easy access to the duned sandy beach.

The Old Rechabite Hall

The Old Rechabite Hall was at various times 'The Swan' public house, a general stores, the Appledore Ice Cream Parlour, as well as being a meeting place for the Rechabites, a temperance society founded in the 1900s. The house is situated in a picturesque traffic-free thoroughfare a short distance from the quayside where there is unrestricted parking (a voucher is provided for guests for one car for using the main pay car park nearby). Post Office, Co-op foodstore, butcher, cafe, restaurants, fish and chip shop, inns and several galleries are all within close walking distance. Swimming Pool at Northam (1.5 miles). The nearest towns are Bideford (3 miles) and Barnstable (10 miles) and the house is well positioned for touring Exmoor, Dartmoor and the North Cornish coast. Nearest airports are Exeter, Newquay and Bristol.

The smaller of the two provides additional sleeping accommodation when required having a Relyon double bed settee. Available for guests' use are digital TV with Freeview, DVD player and video, radio-casette player, full-size table football, jukebox.

On the ground floor there is a large kitchen with dining area; a utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and ironing facilities; and a shower room and toilet.

From the utility room French doors lead to a small courtyard. Here there are two sets of steps one leads to a secluded and sunny roof terrace with table and chairs,

while the other leads to walled and equally sunny garden complete with garden furniture, barbecue and croquet set. These steps are gated at the top and they have handrails on either side. However, toddlers and infirm adults will need to take care.

There are four bedrooms on the first floor: bedroom 1, with pleasant views over the estuary to Instow, has a kingsize bed with additional single bed;

bedroom 2 a double bedroom, bedroom 3 a twin bedroom, and a bright and cheery bedroom 4 with adult size bunk beds to sleep two plus a folding 'sleep-over' chair/bed.

The house has been completely renovated before being made available for holiday let. Facilities include: dishwasher, microwave, gas cooker, refrigerator, freezer. hair dryer, nsh, bed linen, (duvets) inclusive. Gas and electricity use are included in the price. Phone for incoming calls.

£100.00 per night inclusive.

All our holiday accommodation weeks or consecutive weeks begin from Sunday at 15.30hrs, and end Sunday 10.00 hrs. Minimum stay seven nights.

(2006 tariff applies until 07.01.07. Weekly tariff for 8 people as from 08.01.07: peak season £800; mid season £675; low season £550; 14 day tariff as from 08.01.07: peak season £1500; mid season £1250; low season £1000; extra people (to 10) £75 per person per week)

Once you've check on availability of dates and arranged these then send a booking deposit of 30% of the total fee payable to J F TRUSSELL to the following address:

This will be deducted from the total fee and secure your booking. A booking contract will then be sent to be returned to us with the remaining balance, which should be paid six weeks before your holiday, or when the booking is made if this is less than six weeks before the start of your holiday.

There will be a refundable security deposit of £100 per week payable with the outstanding balance before the holiday, and returned to the client within a week of the end of the holiday if the property has been left as it was found in terms of equipment, fittings and cleanliness.

Accommodation: Maximum capacity strictly 11: there is a surcharge of £50.00 per person per week for numbers over and above tariff quoted which is for 8 persons

Departures from the property should be by 10.00hrs on Sunday; arrivals should not before 15.30 hrs the same Sunday in order that the house can be cleaned, beds changed etc in the interim. We, or our representative, would prefer to hand the keys over, but in the event of late arrivals appropriate arrangements will be made for convenient transfer of keys. This will be detailed in the final receipt.

Should a booked holiday be cancelled for whatever reason before the final payment has been made the booking deposit will be returned minus £30.00 handling charge.

Should a booked holiday be cancelled after the final payment has been made, but the property is then re-let for the period booked then the whole fee will be refunded minus £30.00 handling charge.

Should it not be possible to re-let the property after the final payment has been made then the client will forfeit the whole sum paid. No refunds will be made if for whatever reason a holiday at the property is curtailed.

It is strongly suggested therefore that the client takes out a Holiday Cancellation Insurance if there is any risk of cancellation.
