Welcome to Wern-y-marchog where we offer luxury self catering holiday cottage accommodation on a family farm in the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is situated approximately 2 miles south of the busy Market town of Brecon at the foothills of the majestic Brecon Beacons. It is easily accessible by car from all parts of the U.K. and Wern-y-marchog can be reached within a 10 minute drive after turning off the main A.40 road.

The cottages are situated approximately 2 miles off the A.40 and 4 miles from the busy market town of Brecon. A pleasant 20 minutes walk away in the village of Llanfrynach is the Award winning pub/restaurant The White Swan. Other pubs/restaurants can be recommended locally serving the best of modern cuisine.

The surrounding countryside is some of the most impressive in Wales and provides superior walking, mountain biking, pony trekking, bird watching, wildlife, fishing, sailing, golfing and climbing opportunities.

Wern-y-marchog is open throughout the year for weekly lets or mid-week/weekend short breaks and makes an ideal location for the whole family, whether your priority is relaxation, as a central base for touring or to enjoy the wide variety of energetic activities the area has to offer. Visitors are welcome to walk through the meadows down to the stream as long as the Country Code is adhered to.

The surrounding area is some of the most impressive in Wales with magnificent landscapes, rivers, lakes, canals, waterfalls, ancient woodlands, plenty of clean fresh mountain air, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits to cater for people of all ages. The lush valleys and windswept uplands of the Brecon Beacons are not only a birdwatcher’s paradise they are also a haven for all sorts of wildlife, with the occasional Red Kite seen in the area.

It is the perfect place for keen walkers with easy walking straight onto the mountains. Nearby is the Old Roman Road that leads through the Brecon Beacons and passing Pen-y-fan, the highest peak (886m) in Southern Britain. The National Park extends to over 500 square miles so there is plenty of space if you need to get away from it all! The peace and tranquillity of the area makes an ideal base for all seasons and the seasonal changes from Spring through to Winter offer you spectacular scenery and a kaleidoscope of colour.

Brecon is of course first and foremost a traditional farming community with a large livestock Market now situated out of town where there are regular sheep, cattle and pony sales. The town has a covered Market on Tuesdays and Fridays and the usual array of interesting shops.

A wide range of local producers ensure a varied selection of produce, meats, vegetables, eggs, wines, home-made cakes and chutneys etc at the Farmers Markets. There are also well stocked farm shops locally. There is an excellent choice of good places to eat within the National Park serving home cooked food. A pleasant 30 minute walk away is the award winning pub/restaurant The White Swan in Llanfrynach serving the best of modern cuisine.

ATTRACTIONS and PLACES TO VISIT

The town of Brecon has many interesting places to visit such as Brecon Cathedral, Brecon Museum, South Wales Borderers Museum featuring 280 years of military history. Two-screen Cinema offering up to the minute films and an impressive canal side Theatre. Sport and leisure are well catered for and there are 2 Golf courses.

There are numerous places to visit such as Hay-on-Wye known as ‘The Town of Books’, Castles, Gardens, Waterfalls, Show caves, Big Pit Mining Museum, Mountain Railway, National Showcaves, Millennium Stadium and Cardiff Bay etc. all within 1 hour’s drive to entertain the whole family.

Wern-y-Marchog Bungalow is a well modernised three bedroom detached bungalow situated in a rural location approximately 4 miles from the market town of Brecon. The property dates back to1969 and has been recently refurbished and benefits from UPVC double glazing, electric storage heaters and fitted carpets throughout and a modern stylish kitchen. Decorated to a high standard the property is ideal for a family holiday. It is the perfect base for a restful de-stressing break whatever the weather or for active exploration of the surrounding unspoilt countryside with walking and cycling from the doorstep.

THE BUNGALOW: (sleeps 6)

The property comprises the following:-

Kitchen - Extremely well equipped with fitted units, pine dresser, table and chairs. Electric cooker, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, radio and T.V. Quality portmeirion china, a good selection of cookware, saucepans, kitchen utensils and cutlery. Laura Ashley fabrics.

Sitting room - The large window in this room makes the sitting room light and airy with breathtaking panoramic views across the rolling fields and woodland into the valley beyond. It is tastefully furnished with co-ordinating fabrics, cushions and curtains. Soft leather sofas and easy chair. A large screen SKY T.V. Video/DVD combi and Hi-fi. A very efficient real flame electric fire.

Bedrooms - There are two attractively decorated double bedrooms and a twin bedroom.

Shower room/toilet - There is a shower cubicle with power shower, wash hand basin, shaver socket and wall heater. Separate toilet.

Gardens - At the front of the property is a large enclosed lawn and to the rear is a patio with garden seating, bbq, a lockable storage shed and a rotary clothes airer. There is private parking for two cars and also a well maintained lawned area with a variety of plants and shrubs. Adjoining is an enclosed children's play area. There is a wonderful view of the mountain that leads up to Pen-y-fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons.

Wern-y-Marchog Farmhouse is a traditional stone and slate detached family sized country property for people seeking quality accommodation in peaceful picturesque surroundings. Set in the heart of the scenic Welsh countryside at the foothills of the Brecon Beacons. The area offers stunning views, plenty of fresh clean mountain air and excellent walks with direct access to all the main peaks from the doorstep.

In recent years the property has been cleverly divided into two completely self-contained apartments with their own individual entrance but interlinking by an internal door making a very spacious family sized property which can be used jointly for larger families or groups to accommodate a maximum of 8 people. This is a highly successful and popular self-catering establishment with excellent facilities and regular repeat bookings from satisfied clients.

THE GROUND FLOOR APARTMENT comprises the following:-

Kitchen - A lovely family kitchen with oak fitted units and an oil-fired Rayburn set in an inglenook fireplace which provides hot water and full central heating. There is a long pine dining table which will seat 10, old oak church pews and a welsh dresser. An electric ceramic hob double oven and grill, fridge x 2, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, toaster and kettle. Quality saucepans and an extensive range of oven, table and glass ware etc. There is ample work surface and storage space in the well equipped kitchen. A Sky freeview TV, radio and views out over the well maintained garden.

Sitting room - A cosy sitting room with large screen SKY TV and video/DVD combi. A very comfortable good quality sofa bed and easy chairs. An efficient electric real flame fire or if preferred there is an open fire with logs provided.

Bedroom - An attractively decorated double bedroom with co-ordinating fabrics and furnishings.

Shower room - Fully tiled shower room with shower cubicle, shower, wash hand basin and toilet. Shaver socket and wall heater. In the porch near the front door entrance is a drying area for muddy boots and wet clothes.

At the rear of the property is an enclosed sunny country cottage garden with patio, BBQ and garden seating.

THE FIRST FLOOR APARTMENT

This part of the farmhouse has its own separate entrance through the original front door and up a flight of stairs to the first floor. Safety gate fitted at the top of the stairs.

The views from the windows are lovely looking out over the valley at the front of the house and at the back you can view the animals and wildlife in the neighbouring fields and Cefn Cyff mountain which leads up to Pen-y-fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons making this a wonderful location for walkers.

Kitchen - A well equipped kitchen with oak units, 4 ring electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer and radio. Pine table and chairs. China, glass, cutlery, pots and pans etc.

Sitting room - A large sitting room furnished with comfortable sofas and chairs. A flame effect electric fire set in an inglenook. Slimline SKY Freeview TV and video/DVD combi.

Bedrooms - There are two pretty bedrooms. One double bedroom with co-ordinating bed linen and furnishings and a family room with a double bed and a matching single bed. SKY Freeview TV.

Bathroom - A new luxury white bathroom suite with bath and power shower over, hand basin, toilet and a heated towel rail. Large airing cupboard. Full central heating.
