Pembrokeshire self catering holiday cottages

Treffynnon - Choosing holiday cottages is always a bit of a gamble. You want comfortable, self-catering accommodation for your holiday.  You’d like somewhere with expansive vistas and sea views.  Somewhere that is child friendly so you can relax and let the stresses and strains wash away.  You’ve worked hard and now it’s a time to enjoy being with your family and loved ones and you want your holiday cottage to be at least as comfortable as your own home.

Treffynnon is a truly luxurious cottage, blessed with mountain and sea views, nestling in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park with direct access on to the Preseli Hills.

Maybe you’re looking for an idyllic country getaway but you’re not keen on roughing it.  After all you’re on holiday.  So you’d like a dishwasher, plenty of fridge and freezer space, a tumble drier, microwave.  A shower that is more than a trickle with oodles of hot water.  And if you’re into cooking and an Aga does it for you, we have a four oven version that provides a fabulous cooking experience.

Sadly, so many self catering holiday cottages are somewhat Spartan and less comfortable than than you’d like.  They look fine in the brochure but the reality is different; tired sofas, inadequate kitchen equipment, insufficient hot water and so on.  In contrast, Treffynnon provides true luxury for a really relaxing holiday.

Maybe you’d like to catch a few hours of a Test Match, the Premiership or the Tri-Nations rugby, so you’ll want Sky Sports.  As well as kids’ channels for rainy days.  It’s all here.

You might even want email and internet access.  Just bring your laptop and connect to the wireless network.  It’s useful for checking up-to-date times for  local activities like seal watching and boat trips around Ramsey Island.

The problem is there are hundreds, if not thousands of self catering holiday cottages in Pembrokeshire and West Wales to choose from.  So why take a gamble?

Like you, we’ve holidayed in many cottages.  Some have been great, some OK and some awful.  The worst was not many miles from here - we stayed one night! So we know what it’s like when it goes wrong.

We’d like you stay in a home that exceeds your expectations.  We’d like you to come again and tell your friends about us.

Imagine staying in the beautiful Pembrokeshire National Park, on the slopes of the Preseli Hills with fabulous sea views. Would that suit you?  Or relaxing in front of a glowing fire with a glass of wine after a day’s walking on the hills. How would that be?

Picture the kids playing in a secure environment without having to worry about them. There’s a safe paddock where youngsters can burn off energy while you enjoy a well-earned rest and maybe read a book or two.

Or perhaps you’d like to sit round the fire in the secret garden and bake potatoes with your family.  A lovely spot for long summer evenings or crisp winter days

Treffynnon is a traditional, stone-built, mountain farmhouse with stunning, panoramic views over Newport Bay, Dinas Island and Morfa Head.  The house sits above the picturesque town of Newport, on the north-western slopes of Carn Ingli (Mount of Angels) in the Preseli Hills.

Treffynnon is the home of Martina & Steve Mallett and  offers luxurious, high quality, self-catering facilities for up to eight people, in complete privacy and seclusion.

Since we moved here in June 1999 we have extended and renovated the entire property.  The furnishings, fittings and decor are to high residential standards with an Aga in the kitchen, wood-burning stove in the living room and under-floor heating throughout, bedrooms included.  Treffynnon is a warm and comfortable retreat for year-round holidays and breaks.

The area around Treffynnon offers lots to see and do for all the family.  There is the large expanse of sand and dunes at Traeth Mawr, the smaller Parrog Beach on the estuary and the beautiful and secluded shingle beach at Aberhigian,  accessed via a short walk along the Coastal Path.

There is an 18 hole, links golf course, wonderful kayaking around the fabled coast, horse riding, with treks on to Carn Ingli or through the beautiful woods of the Gwaun Valley to the renowned pub - Bessie’s.

If walking is your thing, then there are miles of paths across the Preselis, starting from right outside the door, ranging from short rambles to full-on day treks.  And of course there is the rugged beauty of the  Pembrokeshire Coast Path, from which you stand a good chance of seeing seals, dolphin and a vast array of birds and wild flowers.
