The Stables is a self catering Holiday Cottage in
Pembrokeshire set in 70 acres of it’s own coastal farmland. This converted
Pembrokeshire long barn sleeps 6, faces the sea and has panoramic views from
Fishguard Bay to Dinas Head. It also has wonderful views up over the Preseli
hills. The farm was used as a location for The 1956 Hollywood movie, Moby Dick.
The Whale scenes were shot from our fields.
The farm has it’s own beautiful beach just minutes walk across the fields from
the cottage. It is secluded, safe for swimming and an ideal beach for relaxing.
It is dramatic at all times of the year. In the summer it is sheltered from the
prevailing winds and is great for swimming, bathing, exploring the rock pools
and simply chilling out . In the winter it can be equally dramatic as the big
Atlantic rollers make there way into the bay. The walk down to the beach is
quite steep !
The Stables is one of the rare holiday cottages in
Pembrokeshire to have views both across the sea and up over the Preseli Hills.
Enjoy amazing summer evening sunsets over the sea from the living room and
outdoor patios.
The Stables is secluded, safe from traffic and offers the perfect setting for
families, walkers or those wishing to get away from it all.
The Stables is surrounded by Ffynnonofi farmland and for most
of the year there are sheep in the fields around the cottage. In the spring
there will be lambs staring at you through the windows! The fields lead right
down to the coastal path and beach. The Stables is one of the few holiday
cottages in Pembrokeshire to be completely surrounded by national park farmland.
Many traditional Pembrokeshire holiday cottages have small windows and can be a
bit dark. The Stables cottage has bright spacious rooms with white washed walls,
local ash floors, cosy wood burning stoves and great sea views. The bedrooms
have views up Garn Fawr mountain and the living room faces the sea. The cottage
gets the sun all day and there are lots of places to sit and relax both inside
and out.
The farm is perfectly located for visitors who want to explore the Celtic history of The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. North Pembrokeshire boasts some of the best examples of ancient burial chambers, standing stones and Cromlechs. St Davids and it's wonderful Cathedral is only 15 miles south. There are some stunning churches and examples of the earliest Celtic writing in Nevern.
We believe it is increasingly important that Holiday Cottages
in Pembrokeshire become more eco friendly. We owe it to the landscape and future
generations.
Although we are by no means perfect we have a mission to reduce our carbon
footprint each year. We encourage energy efficiency, we buy our electricity from
Ecotricity which is 100% wind generated, we use ecological building and cleaning
materials where we can, we promote biodiversity, we encourage our visitors to
shop locally and recycle waste.
Holiday Cottages in Pembrokeshire are served by wonderful bays, coves and
beaches. There are several in walking distance form the Stables. Aberbach is a
lovely 20 minute walk down the coastal path southwards, and Pwllgwaelod is just
15 minutes walk north. Cwm-Yr- Egylws is very sheltered pretty bay and great for
swimming and boating, It is only a short walk down the back lane. Newport sands
is a lovely long sandy beach 4 miles drive north and Whitesands and Newgale
beaches are 30 minutes south.
The Stables is an ideal base for keen walkers. The famous
Pembrokeshire coastal path is just a few minutes walk across the fields and the
Dinas Island walk is literally at your doorstep. There are wonderful walks both
south towards Aberbach and Fishguard and north towards Newport Bay. The Preseli
hills are also right behind the Stables and you can walk up to Garn Fawr and
Carningli from the farm. The Gwaun valley is just a short drive over the hills.
Pembrokeshire is a great place for winter holidays whether it be for long
weekends out of season or for xmas and the new year. The cottage is perfectly
located for walking the Pembrokeshire coastal path and hiking up the Preseli
hills. The cottage is warm, cosy and the perfect place to snuggle up to a well
earned glass of wine !
One of the major attractions of this Holiday Cottage in
Pembrokeshire is that it is benefits from both a coastal location whilst being
right at the heart of the wonderful Preseli Hills. In one afternoon you can walk
up to walk to the top of Carningli or Garn Fawr mountain and visit several coves
in the same trip.
There are several horse riding stables nearby providing great access up over the
hills.
This self catering cottage is a great location for mountain bikers, kayakers,
horse riders and hikers. It is on the doorstep of the Preseli Hills and there
are a wide variety of trails and bridleways over the Preseli Hills and into the
Gwaun Valley. North Pembrokeshire has such variety of landscape that you can be
climbing up to an ancient Cromlech one minute and swimming on our beach 30
minutes later.
The Stables at Ffynnonofi Farm is a Coastal Cottage situated aprox 4 miles north
of Fishguard in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. It is one of the few
coastal cottages to be located in it's own coastal farmland.
The Cottage has panoramic sea views across the fields from Fishguard Bay to
Dinas Head and is the only holiday cottage on the farm. It also has great views
up over the Preseli hills.
The farm was a location for the 1956 Hollywood Movie Moby Dick. John Huston
directed the whale scenes from the fields whilst Gregory Peck had welsh cakes in
the farmhouse!
All the land surrounding this Pembrokeshire coastal cottage is our farmland and
visitors are free to walk through the fields to the beach and coastal path.
Unfortunately, we don’t allow dogs because of the sheep.
There is a long farm track providing seclusion and privacy and there are no
roads or highways to worry about. It is the perfect place for families as it
very safe for children. The Stables is also a great Pembrokeshire coastal
cottage for walkers as the coastal path is only a short walk across the fields.
It is perfectly placed for the famous Dinas Island walk.
Dinas village is only a 15 minute walk away for local pubs, mini market and fish
& chip shop. The Old Sailors pub and restaurant is only a 15 minute walk down
the coastal path at Pwllgwaelod Beach. This is a great place to stop off for
refreshments after the Dinas Island walk.
There are lots of coves and beaches in walking distance. The lovely beach
Cwm-Yr-Eglwys is 20 minutes walk down the back lane and Pwllgwaelod and Aberbach
beaches are only 15 minutes walk down the coastal path.
The farm is also a great starting point for those wanting to explore the North
Pembrokeshire National Park. There are some wonderful walks in the Preseli
Hills, Gwaun valley and St Davids is only 15miles south.
The famous 4000 BC burial chamber at Pentre Ifan is only a 15 minute drive away
and some of the earliest Celtic writing can be seen at the Ogan stones in
Nevern, just 10 minutes by car.
Ffynnonofi is also only 3 miles from the pretty village of Newport where there
are shops, restaurants, pubs, antique shops and a wonderful estuary walk from
the Parrog.
The picturesque harbour of Lower Fishguard is just 4 miles south and a great
place to have an early evening drink. The Irish Ferry and trains to South Wales,
Bristol and London leave Goodwick harbour approx twice a day.

and it is perfectly positioned for exploring the wonderful beaches and coves.
It is also a great base for walkers eager to explore the famous Pembrokeshire
coastal path and the Preseli mountains. With it's own beach just minutes across
the fields it is also ideal for those who just want to chill out for a bit. On
most days of the year you'll have the beach all to yourself.
All rooms in the Stables have great views. The Living room faces the sea and the
bedrooms and south facing conservatory look up over the Preseli hills from
Carningli to Garn Fawr.
There are loads of places to sit and watch nature or chill out with a glass of
wine. The Pergola outdoor eating area faces south and west and commands
wonderful views up the mountains and across Fishguard bay.
The cottage has central heating and is well insulated. There are wood burning
stoves in the living room and conservatory making it warm and cosy in the
winter. We provide one free basket of wood and then ask visitors to pay for any
extra baskets. The wood is sustainably grown seasoned ash.

visitors are free to walk through the fields to the beach and coastal path.
The Stables is the only holiday cottage at the farm and visitors are encouraged
to roam around the farm at their free will. The Stables also has it's own
entrance and is positioned away from the other farm buildings giving extra
privacy.
There are lots of places for children to explore and there is a basketball net
in the yard. Johny, the farm's caretaker, lives in the coach house and is always
around to help with directions and to hand over keys etc.
The Stables is surrounded by sheep most of the year and in the spring there will
be lambs staring in through the windows. We don't allow dogs because of the
sheep.
The cottage is only 15 minutes walk to the village of Dinas for supplies, pub
and fish and chip shop. It's just a 10 minute walk down the coastal path to The
Old Sailors Inn at Pwllgwaelod Beach.
There is loads of space for parking but please note the farm track is a bit
rough and low slung sports cars may have a problem !
Please also note that we like to let the hedgerows and verges grow in the summer
in order to encourage the wild flowers and increase biodiversity. If it's short
neat lawns you are after Ffynnonofi is not the place for you !
The Stables is a Pembrokeshire holiday cottage with it's own
beach. The farm beach is called Cwm Gwyllog, and is just a few minutes walk
across the fields.
The beach is surrounded by dramatic slate cliffs, gorse and ferns and is
sheltered from prevailing winds in the summer months. It is a slate and shingle
beach with lots of nooks and crannies to sit, sunbathe and have a picnic. On a
still day the water is very clear and safe for swimming and paddling.
The bay is beautiful all the year round as the colours change with the seasons.
One minute the cliffs are all bathed in gorse yellow, the next moment they are
deep fern red. When the north wind blows huge rollers come crashing up the
beach.
In the winter the beach is great for beachcombing and those bracing afternoon
walks.
The cliffs above the beach are a great spot for nature lovers. There are
guillemots and cormorants and seals regularly surface in the bay.
There are several other beaches only a short walk from the Stables. Pwllgwaelod
beach is a 10 minute walk to the south and Cwm -Yr- Eglyws is a lovely sheltered
sandy cove only 15 minutes down the back lane.
Newport Sands is a 5 miles drive away and Whitesands Bay is 25 minutes by road
on the way to St Davids.
The Stables is a converted traditional Pembrokeshire long barn
and is spacious, bright and has sea or mountain views from all rooms.
The cottage has white washed walls , exposed stone, and ash, slate and
terracotta floors.
The Cottage sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. There are 2 rooms with double beds and one
childs room with a bunk and a single bed. The rooms are warm and cosy and safe
for children as there are no stairs.
The living room is spacious and has double doors leading out onto a patio facing
the sea. There is a panoramic view of the sea from Fishguard to Dinas Head.
Sheep wonder past the cottage and in the spring lambs will stare through the
windows. The living room has a wood burning stove, TV/DVD facilities and dining
area.
The kitchen is spacious and well equipped with gas hob, electric oven,
microwave, washing machine etc. It leads into a converted piggery which acts as
conservatory and south facing eating area.
The conservatory leads out to an outdoor eating area and pergola with great
views over fishguard harbour and up Garn Fawr mountain.
The bathroom has a shower but no bath.

There is a wood store for logs. We provide one free basket and ask visitors to
pay for additional baskets.
The Stables is a Holiday Cottage in Pembrokeshire set in 80
acres of it's own coastal farmland. We don't farm the land ourselves but we
lease it out to a sheep farmer.
All the farmland is used for sheep grazing throughout the year. Our neighbours
rear ponies which you can see on the walk to Aberbach beach.
The name Ffynnonofi means Ofi's Spring in Welsh and legend has it that Pilgrims
would stop off at the farm on their way to St Davids. The spring dates back to
the 11th century.
The Stables farm cottage is set apart from the main farm buildings and has lots
of it's own space for children to play. The farm is accessed by a long track
making it safe from traffic and providing privacy and peaceful seclusion. The
Stables is the only holiday cottage on the farm and visitors are encouraged to
roam wherever they wish.
The Stables cottage living room looks over the fields and over the sea. Open the
doors and it is just a short walk to the coastal path and it's own beach.
For most of the year the Stables is surrounded by sheep and in March onwards
there will be lambs staring through your windows.
The farmer is happy for visitors to walk across the fields providing they leave
gates how they found them and respect the sheep.
The Stables cottage is ideal for nature lovers as foxes, badgers, rabbits and
hares regularly appear in the field in front of the cottage. There are swallows
in the barn and a buzzard has been nesting in one of our ash trees for the last
couple of years.
There is a local riding stables (Havard Stables) just a mile outside the village
where you can ride up the Preseli hills.

coastal path is simply a short walk across the fields. There are stunning sea
views from the cottage and cosy wood burning stoves to relax in front of when
you return.
The coastline is spectacular both south towards Aberbach beach and north towards
Dinas Island and Cwm-yr-Eglyws.
The cottage is perfectly placed for the Dinas Island walk and the Old Sailors
Pub is just a short walk down the coastal path.
The walk to Newport bay from the farm provides some wonderful unspoilt coves
including Aberforest and Aberrigian.
The Cottage is also perfectly placed for hill walking up into the Preseli Hills.
Carningli and Garn Fawr mountains are both in walking distance and provide
wonderful views over the north Pembrokeshire coast.
There are ancient forts, standing stones and cromlechs to explore as well as the
famous Pembrokeshire blue stones.
The Gwaun valley is also a major attraction with ancient forests, streams and
waterfalls. There are old trader bridleways and pathways up through the valley
into the Preselis. Not to be missed!
Tycanol forest is just a short drive away and is a real jewel with ancient
mosses, swamps and twisted old Pembrokeshire trees. Combine this walk with a
visit to the famous burial chamber at Pentre Ifan.
There are also organised walking tours around the town of Newport, revealing old
paths up past the castle onto the peak of Carningli mountain.
