Situated about six miles from the coast, between Alford and Louth, our holiday accommodation consists of two Cottages and four Log Cabins.
One mile from the centre of the village, the Cottages are on the private road leading to Park Farm. They are surrounded by an area of grass and are next to about three acres of woodland where the Log Cabins are situated. Boston and Grimsby are about forty minutes drive away and Lincoln a little more. Boston and Lincoln are both of considerable interest to tourists.
There are some thirty miles of sandy beaches around Lincolnshire, from Cleethorpes in the north through Donna Nook, where the sea may be too far out to see and mirages abound on hot days. Coming South Mablethorpe has amusement arcades and fish and chip shops aplenty. The beach continues through Sutton on Sea, Huttoft Bank and Anderby Creek, where it is possible to spend a peaceful day, all very quiet up to Chapel St Leonards, where it gets more commercialised, through Ingoldmells and Skegness. Beyond Skegness, Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve is of interest to serious bird watchers.
If you turn inland, instead of towards the coast, you are very soon in the Lincolnshire Wolds. They are a chalk hills running from South of Spilsby North to the Humber, with a highest point o 168 Metres (550 feet.) above sea level. Most of the Wolds are designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are hamlets consisting of one farm and two or three cottages and villages with one or two pubs, most of which do good reasonably priced food. Most weekends there is a motorcycle or car racing going on at Cadwell park.
However crowded the seaside towns may be, you can always find places in the Wolds where you can imaging no one has ever been before
Log Cabins
They are not log cabins really; what I mean is, they are not built of tree trunks notched at the ends so they fit together, with gaps stuffed with moss and mud to keep the arctic winds out. They are of timber construction and designed to capture the atmosphere of the surroundings. You do not have to gather damp wood to make a fire before you eat. (If you wish you can burn your meat over glowing charcoal.)
They are designed to look as natural as possible in a woodland setting. That is why we are keeping the number down to four. They are double glazed and centrally heated, so they are always warm and comfortable. Goldcrest and Pheasant have a lounge over thirteen feet square with a kitchen area off one end, with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, etc. In the lounge there is a dining table and chairs, a settee and easy chairs, coffee tables and of course a colour television.
There is a bathroom with a standard sized bath, one bedroom with a double bed and one with two singles. Single beds are all 3 ft. wide and double beds are 4ft 6ins. Apart from the room with a double bed there is room for a wheel chair anywhere. All the bedroom furniture is built in. In the double room there is a wardrobe, dressing table and bedside tables. In the twin room the table between the beds doubles up as a dressing table. There is also locker space under the beds. The beds have blankets, not duvets.
Partridge and Kestrel are larger, having a larger lounge, one double and two twin rooms, a bathroom and a shower room with a toilet in each. They all have garden tables and chairs on the verandas. The Cabins are all named after birds, which are regularly seen.
A separate building has a washing machine, tumble drier, ironing facilities and a pay phone for the use of the residents. We do not have a ‘Disability’ rating, but experience has shown that the Cabins are suitable for someone in a wheelchair with assistance.
Park Farm Cottages are a pair of semi-detached cottages, which are no longer required for farm workers.
Like the Cabins, they are double glazed and centrally heated. They have three bedrooms, one with a double bed, and two with a single in each, all with blankets, not duvets. There is a bathroom upstairs. The lounges have a settee and easy chairs, coffee tables and television, and a dining table and chairs in a corner. The kitchens have fitted units, electric cookers microwaves and toasters, and a table and chairs. The fridge is in the pantry.
The kitchen, pantry, and bathroom floors are covered with vynolay, the rest being carpeted. There is a washing machine, tumble drier and ironing facilities in the utility room at the rear of the cottages, for the use of both. There are also garden tables and chairs for use when the weather is suitable. The Cottages are not suitable for disabled
