Sympathetically converted from former
stables, this delightful detached cottage dates back to 1887. The cottage, a
fourteenth century flour mill, complete with water wheel and many of the
original workings, and the owner's house share a courtyard and three and a half
acres of grounds. The extensive gardens are bordered by meadowland, a pond, a
stream and a leat and are backed by open countryside and the single track Tarka
Railway Line; there is a request stop at Lapford and from here you can take the
train on scenic routes to Exeter or Barnstaple. Inside, the cottage has Devon
slate tiled floors on the ground floor, covered by a rug in the lounge where
there is a comfortable three-piece suite. A pine dresser and centre table
complement the wood units in the kitchen. The bathroom and shower room are fully
tiled and the pretty bedrooms have beams with vaulted ceilings and portable
televisions. Lapford is equidistant from the Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor.
Nearby are the National Trust properties of Knightshayes Court and Killerton
House. The cathedral city of Exeter is a short drive and there are canal boat
rides at Tiverton.
