Little Ringmore stands on the edge of the estuary of the River
Teign, an easy walk upstream from the main part of the seaside village of
Shaldon, with its lovely sandy beaches the perfect situation for
special-escapes. The house is designed with the living accommodation all
upstairs, to take advantage of the lovely views both in front and behind the
house.
The drawing room looks towards the countryside, and opens out onto spacious
balcony. It is comfortably furnished with sofas, and has a gas fire, and
television with both DVD and video.
The open plan kitchen and dining room, overlook the river estuary and the Strand
with its listed buildings, and slipway for launching smaller boats. The kitchen
is newly and comprehensively equipped with both freezer and fridge, and the
utility room has an automatic washing machine. There is also a cloakroom on this
floor.
The house sleeps seven people comfortably, and in addition there is room for a cot, and also an extra pull out bed in the single bedroom. All bedroom accommodation is on the ground floor.
The main bedroom has a double bed and furniture that compliments it's waterside location, and en-suite bath and shower room, and has patio doors opening on to the front terrace and garden. Views overlooking the garden and across the River Teign. A second double bedroom, also beautifully furnished has an en-suite bathroom with bath, and also overlooks the garden and river.
The third bedroom has twin beds, and again its own en-suite shower room, and overlooks the rear garden.
A fourth bedroom has just a single bed, with a pull out bed
stored underneath. A cot complete with linen, and a high chair, are available
for hire.
Ringmore is an easy walk up river from Shaldon, a beautiful valley with many
thatched properties, many dating from the 15th century. Exploring is a delight.
And a visit to the tiny church of St Nicholas is rewarding, with its pre Saxon
font. A church has stood on this
site since the 7th century.
The livelihood of Shaldon is based around the estuary, holiday makers, fishing,
boating and cottage industries, whilst the town of Teignmouth on the opposite
shore, is still a busy and thriving small port. The foot ferry which operates
from the river beach at Shaldon over to Teignmouth has been in existence since
the 13th century, and the present ferry was modernised in 1909 by being
motorised !
Shaldon boasts many interests, Botanical gardens at the top of
the village, the coastal path winds up over the cliffs towards Torquay. The
Shaldon Wildlife Park cares for several small creatures and is a must for zoo
lovers, and a par 3 approach golf course may be found on the cliffs. In addition
to the estuary beaches, a smugglers tunnel leads to Ness cove, a sheltered
beach.
During the season, local fishermen shoot their seine nets to catch Salmon on the
beach. Boat auctions are held twice a year on the beach, bringing visitors from
all over the West country, and the annual water carnival and Regatta provide
entertainment during the summer months. Wednesdays during the season are always
fun, with stalls on the village green, local people in historic costumes, tours
of the village, and evening entertainment with punch & Judy, and other plays
and entertainers into the evening also on the village green.
The Village has a baker, a butcher, and general grocers shop, a chemist. Post Office, and various other small shops. There are many different pubs and restaurants, all within walking distance, and a fine coffee shop with homemade cakes.
