Lancombe Country Cottages are set amongst the finest scenery in Dorset in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Built of traditional flint and brick the six cottages are in spacious gardens and enjoy far-reaching views.

The cottages are set round an attractive walled courtyard where, for once, you can appreciate a garden without feeling compelled to rush out and do a bit of weeding! Simply relax on your cottage terrace and enjoy the view.

We want you to love Dorset as much as we do, so we provide the comfort and do the boring things like washing sheets and towels, leaving you to explore, walk, swim read - or even play cricket in the garden

Pack the car with those books you've wanted to read for ages and leave the rubber gloves at home. We like to pay attention to detail so that you only need to bring the enjoyable bits like food, wine and the swimsuit. You'll find the kitchens really well equipped with microwaves, casseroles, baking trays (if you really must), utensils, tea towels, washing up liquid, kitchen towel, foil, cling film, those rubber gloves ..... And for those whose culinary skills lie outside the kitchen, we have a barbecue for you.

For the odd occasion we aren't basking in tropical sunshine (we like to dream) and for those cosy winter weekends each cottage is fully centrally heated. We don't make you feed meters or settle up at the end of your stay: the heating is included in the holiday price. As well as a TV you also have a video player and access to a free video library. And remember that attention to detail? We leave you a blank tape so you can record your can't-be-missed programmes.

If you need a cot and/or high chair we'll have it ready in your cottage, free of charge. Towels will be waiting for you in the bathroom, as will soap, tissues and toilet rolls. The only thing we do ask you to bring is pool/beach towels.

When you arrive you can settle down with the cup of tea and a biscuit that we have ready for you and plan your excursions. There are a couple of OS maps in your cottage to help you plan that strenuous walk or locate that gem of a pub in a hidden corner of the countryside.

We have young children and elderly parents and can truly say from our own experience that round here there is something for everyone.

We are deep in Thomas Hardy country, in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the nearby World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast - including Chesil Beach - is ideal for all ages, whether for walking, messing on beaches, fossil hunting, bird watching or beach fishing.

The whole of West Dorset is littered with footpaths, from national trails such as the Wessex Ridgeway (right on our doorstep) for the serious, to smaller market trails guaranteed to keep the children enthralled. There is also golf, fishing, horse riding and go-karting nearby.

There are many beautiful houses and gardens, museums and wildlife parks. The famous Cerne Abbas Giant is well worth a visit, as are the many historic Iron Age hill forts round about. In fact we are fairly certain that the view from Eggardon Hill is one of the best in England. (We think perhaps you should come and see for yourself, just to be sure.)

Dorchester, Weymouth, Bridport, Lyme Regis and Sherborne are all close by and well worthy of exploration with everything from Roman remains to converted wharves and TV locations.

All the local towns have the usual range of supermarkets, but just two miles from the cottages is the thriving village of Maiden Newton where you can pick up most things you need. There is a newsagent/coffee shop, a well-stocked village store, bakery (you mustn't leave without tasting their bread and lardy cake), post office, garage, chip shop, pub, restaurant and coffee shop
