Clough Bottom Farm - This 17th century working farm is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Ribble Valley, down a quiet country lane, caught in a fold of the Lancashire hills. The people who come here use words like, ‘retreat’, ‘relaxing’, ‘refreshing’ and ‘energising’, and these are people who come from all over the country for lots of different reasons. I know this as they often stop to admire my funky strutting around the yard, and make appreciative noises over my beautiful new brood of chicks – as fresh and fluffy as the mash potato our award winning chef makes as an accompaniment to our delicious range of Food from the Farm ready meals, and lunches served to people attending experiential training courses at Clough Bottom.

Some of our other visitors come in search of large and ornamental trees and shrubs for their gardens, others to enjoy a relaxing cottage break in one of our three, lovingly converted self-catering holiday cottages - the perfect base to explore this idyllic stretch of the Ribble Valley, Lancashire - some come to stock up on our Food from the Farm which includes our delicious 10kg organic beef boxes and homemade preserves, jams and chutneys, and some even choose Clough Bottom as the venue for their wedding reception!

The Cottages

Stylishly furnished and equipped with every modern facility, these lovingly converted stone-built farm buildings are perfect for small groups of family and friends looking for a relaxing self-catering cottage holiday - hidden away down a leafy country lane in the heart of the beautiful Ribble Valley, Lancashire.

Each of our three farm cottages has its own unique and distinct feel and charm: whether you’re looking for a sociable open plan lay-out, a cosy cottage with a wood burning stove or a picturesque patio area overlooking some of the finest countryside in Lancashire. The interior of each cottage has been designed to reflect the surroundings in which it rests, with the focus remaining on comfort, style and luxury. The sumptuous feel of the cottages is enhanced by the special attention to detail and designer soft furnishings, while we ensure that you have many restful hours of sleep in comfort on the luxury ‘Sealy’ beds, which grace each bedroom.

Larger groups can be equally well accommodated here at Clough Bottom. Adjoining Saddle Barn and Woodcutter’s Cottage can take up to 10 guests together with plenty of space to dine together around the pine refectory table in Saddle Barn.

For groups of up to 14, where all the cottages are booked together, Middle Barn is available to hire – a beautifully converted barn complete with stone floors (and the essential under floor heating!), exposed beams and pine dining tables. It’s a fantastic setting for a celebration.

The Ribble Valley is a rural haven of spectacular scenery, legend and diverse natural habitats.  It’s a place of almost incomparable peace, where adults and children alike can enjoy the simple pleasures of the outdoors without the hustle and bustle of commercialism - the place where the Queen says she’d like to retire (in her official biography by Sarah Bradford)

Within the Ribble Valley is the Forest of Bowland – an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty recently awarded the prestigious European Chartermark for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas.

With a population of 15,000 and covering a total area of 803km2, Bowland may cover the same area as New York City – but you’d never find more of a contrast.  This is not a densely populated area - there are far more sheep and cows!  Dairy farming dominates in the valleys with sheep and beef farming in the uplands.

You won’t find traffic jams here (nor many traffic lights) and our quiet country lanes are the perfect place for exploring at a more leisurely pace.  The Ribble Valley, whilst still relatively untouched by tourism, has been acknowledged by all who visit for its beauty.

The area is a paradise for walkers - the adventurous may wish to tackle the 46 mile walk entitled 'Journey through the Centre of the Kingdom' passing through the village of Dunsop Bridge declared by Ordnance Survey to be the nearest village to the exact centre of the British Isles. There are walks and strolls to suit everyone’s legs – passing through local villages, winding along the river, tracking through the forest and even following the trail of the Pendle witches and in the footsteps of JRR Tolkein.
