Converted from traditional Bowland Lancashire stone farm buildings, our holiday cottages offer luxurious and flexible environmentally friendly self catering accommodation.

If you are looking for wide open skies and breathtaking views, to breathe fresh air and recharge your batteries, enjoy encounters with wildlife and be surrounded by our stunning Bowland countryside then Bleasdale in the Forest of Bowland is the place to be.

We have won awards for our efforts in Lapwing conservation and this is a wonderful area to come and bird watch. There is a thriving hare population here too, we were recently featured in BBC Wildlife Magazine we were also featured in Lapwing the members magazine for the Lancs. Wildlife Trust.

We are situated within easy driving distance of the coast, the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales. Pubs, Cafe and village shops are a short drive away in the historic village of Chipping.

Newly converted from traditional stone farm buildings our cottages, Fern Room offer luxurious self catering holiday accommodation in a picturesque countryside setting in the Forest of Bowland with stunning views of the surrounding Bleasdale Fells and Beacon Fell.

The cottages are completely surrounded by open countryside which is set within over 200 acres of the owner’s land. The cottages with breathtaking views are ideally located for those who enjoy walking, cycling and other outdoor interests.

Within a six mile radius there are at least 10 eating and drinking establishments and a short drive away, many places to visit and things to do, some of which can be found on this website.

If you want to explore the North Lancashire hidden gem that is the Forest of Bowland A.O.N.B. Bleasdale Cottages is the place to stay.

For those who have an interest in bird watching, Bleasdale Cottages are the perfect base for visits to Martin Mere run by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Leighton Moss or the Ribble Estuary, both RSPB Nature Reserves. Also available onsite is the games room, a wildlife lake with brown trout, a laundry room and a store room for bikes and other equipment.

All the cottages are centrally heated by boilers which are run on wood pellets. Wood Pellet boilers are the most environmentally friendly option available due to the fact that they are carbon neutral.

We have superb facilities for those on a walking or cycling holiday, plus some of the best walking and cycling country in England.

 

The name Bleasdale may have come from Old Norse Blesa which means "a bare spot on a hill-side"

Bleasdale Circle SD 577460

Just up the lane and across a few fields is Bleasdale Circle a Bronze Age timber monument built 3700 years ago. The original position of the timber posts are now marked by concrete markers.

The finds from the site are on display at the Harris Museum in Preston.

Roman Lead Mining

High above us across the fells are remains of Roman lead mining and a Romano-British enclosed settlement Sagar Hill.

Packhorse Bridge Admarsh Barn and St. Eadmer’s Church

An equally short walk will take you first past St. Eadmer’s Church, at Admarsh in Bleasdale founded in 1577 and rebuilt 1835 using much of the original decorative stone work. Further on you can go past Admarsh Barn built in 1720 and on to the Packhorse bridge used by horses transporting wool to the Pennine manufacturing areas.

Chipping

'Chipping' in old English means market, many of the village's finest buildings date from the 17th century but the village dates back to Anglo-Saxon times. In the village is an ancient water-wheel and the village church was founded in 597AD.

The craft shop and post office has been a shop since 1668 and is probably the oldest continuously trading shop in Great Britain.

Browsholme Hall

The oldest surviving family home in Lancashire - is the ancestral home of the Parker Family, who have lived there since it was built in 1507.

Clitheroe Castle and Museum

Built around 1186 the Norman castle has dominated the skyline of Clitheroe for over 800 years. Recently refurbished the museum is packed with interesting exhibits plus has a modern cafe and gallery space.

Ribchester Roman Fort, Museum and Bath House

Museum dedicated to the Romano-British history of Bremetenacum Veteranorum, the Roman name for Ribchester.

Medieval Churches

Ancient churches can be found at Chipping, Slaidburn and Bolton by Bowland.

Whalley Abbey

Substantial remains of a Cistercian Abbey founded 1296 and dissolved in 1537. Visitor centre, gift shop and cafe.

Sawley Abbey

The remains of a Cistercian abbey founded in 1148, set on the banks of the Ribble against a backdrop of dramatic hills.

Lancaster Castle

Often known as John O' Gaunt's Castle, Lancaster Castle is one of the most historically interesting buildings in Lancashire.
