The Deckhouse - Emsworth is an attractive former fishing village located on
the north shore of Chichester Harbour which is designated as an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty. The fishing fleet has now largely gone but the town
retains its close links to the sea and remains a bustling and interesting area
for visitors, especially with its many pubs and restaurants.
Emsworth is mid way between Chichester and Portsmouth and fifteen minutes' drive
from both. The area has countless interesting places to visit and is steeped in
history. Emsworth is typical of the many small shoreside villages that grew up
around the harbour. Others include the historical villages of Bosham which came
to fame with King Canute and also Itchenor, which 60 years ago was a hive of
activity in preparation for D-Day.
The Deckhouse itself is part of a unique development. It was one of the UK's first residential developments constructed in partnership with a yacht harbour. The deckhouses are set in a beautiful and tranquil setting in several acres of parkland with two large natural ponds.
The elevated and innovative design is light and airy with its floor to ceiling windows and french doors onto the patio deck. It is welcoming and comfortable for 3 to 4 people. It is regularly inspected by the English Tourist Board and has a 4 Star rating.
Whilst we cannot guarantee good weather, the area appears to share with its neighbour, the Isle of Wight, a favourable micro-climate which is often better than further inland. There has never been a better time to stay in England!
The Deckhouse sleeps 3 to 4 and is ideal for a couple with two young children or an older relative. It has one double bedroom and a single room with two single beds, one of which pulls out from under the other. The double room with its floor to ceiling window looks out over the parkland and the single bedroom faces the Marina.
The large lounge, also with south facing floor to ceiling window and dining area with french doors, opens out to the patio deck which provides privacy for sun bathing and relaxing. In the warmer months you will find a patio table, chairs and deckchairs.
On the bookshelf you will find local guides including information about Chichester Harbour as well as a varied selection of DVDs and videos. There is a telephone for incoming and emergency calls and other outgoing calls can be made with a BT charge card.
The oak kitchen is galley style and comes complete with cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer.
There is a combined shower room with WC.
The entrance is at ground level and has a lobby for coats etc. The staircase provides easy access to the accommodation which is all on the one floor. The Deckhouse has electric central heating.
All linen is provided and the beds are made up for you prior to arrival. Freshly laundered bath mats and tea towels are also provided. All you need to bring are your own towels.
The accommodation has an English Tourist Board rating of Four Stars.
