Hampshire self catering holiday cottages

Burgate Farmhouse is a 15th century thatched listed property in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. It is close to the New Forest National Park.

There are 2 self catering cottage wings. Little Thatch sleeps 2-4 people. Wishing Well sleeps 6 people.

The large Games Barn in the grounds has a skittle alley, pool table, table tennis table, dart board & lots of children's toys.

Thatched pub & Indian restaurant nearby

The Avon Valley footpath runs past the main gate & the River Avon is just over the road.

Burgate Farmhouse is inspected by New Forest Tourism Association for quality standards.

Dogs are welcome. (Little Thatch has an ideal back garden/yard area which is totally secure)

Cots and highchairs are available.

There is an on-site laundry room.

The pretty half acre garden is available for all to enjoy, with a summerhouse, BBQ, garden furniture, swings & football net.

Plenty of on-site parking.

Free Broadband WiFi is available.

Short breaks available from Nov to May

Wishing Well Cottage sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms. The entrance from the courtyard leads into the kitchen, fully equipped with microwave, full size cooker, fridge/freezer etc. A sliding door separates the kitchen from the cosy beamed sitting/dining room. There is a colour TV with freeview, DVD players & a radio/CD player.
There is an extra  WC downstairs just inside the entrance (access is not ideal but it is useful for children). Stairs lead from the kitchen up to the 3 bedrooms, bathroom & toilet.

The large master bedroom has a double bed and single bed* (+ extra colour TV with video player). It is accessed through the 2nd bedroom.

The 2nd bedroom is twin-bedded. In between these rooms is a large walk-in wardrobe. Both these rooms have lovely original beams.

The third bedroom along the corridor is smaller with a sloped ceiling and pine bunk beds (full size). The newly renovated bathroom has a bath with shower over and a washbasin.
There is a separate WC upstairs (also newly renovated).

Wishing Well is ideally suited for family accommodation.
(*The extra single bed in the Master Bedroom means that there are beds for 7. However, space in the lounge/dining room is better suited for 6. If your party includes several children then 7 would probably be OK as the kitchen has a breakfast bar with stools for 4. There is a double bed-settee in the lounge which is intended to provide more flexibility for sleeping arrangements & not to increase the number of people accommodated)

Little Thatch sleeps 2-4 people in 1 bedroom with a bed-settee in the lounge.  It has a front and back entrance, both with lovely thatched porches.  All the rooms are on the ground floor & might suit anyone who is partly disabled.

The very large sitting/dining room has a wealth of beams and charm with its own Inglenook fireplace (sorry no fires). There is a large colour TV with freeview & DVD player & a radio/cd player.
There is a bed-settee in the lounge to increase sleeping facilities to 4.
Patio doors lead out from the sitting room onto the courtyard. (A lovely shady spot under the wisteria).
The hallway leads to a separate WC.

The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, full size cooker, fridge/freezer, table & chairs etc. The back door (from kitchen) leads to a secure yard/garden area - useful for anyone bringing a dog.
There is one bedroom which has twin beds (OR they can be 'zip linked' into a 'queen sized' double if preferred). There is also an extra colour TV/video player in the bedroom.

The bathroom is adjacent & has a bath with shower & washbasin & is accessed through the bedroom. There is a separate toilet off the hallway..

Little Thatch is ideally suited for a couple or a small family.

FORDINGBRIDGE is in the Avon Valley between the NEW FOREST edge and the Dorset borders.
The city of Salisbury is just a few miles away with excellent shopping, a weekly market and the famous Cathedral.

The well known coastal resort of Bournemouth is only 17 miles south. There are lots of beaches about 30 minutes drive away. Southampton is only 20 miles away - lots of shopping!

THE NEW FOREST
The New Forest National Park is a region of exceptional natural beauty with large open heaths, moors, greens, leafy glades & dells interspersed with woods and plantations, picturesque streams & brooks, peaceful old villages, ancient churches & quaint houses & pubs.

AVON VALLEY & FISHING
The Avon Valley Footpath is very close by. Just over the road is a lovely stretch of it which goes over a foot suspension bridge over the River Avon, through water meadows & into the New Forest (via the Fighting Cocks Inn!!). I have a sheet of details regarding local fishing (both river and lakes) - please ask & I will send it.

SALISBURY
This ancient cathedral city is just 20 minutes north and is lovely for a day out. There is a handy (& cheap) Park n Ride if you don't want to drive your car into the city.

SWIMMING POOL
Sandy Balls Holiday Village is only 5 minutes away (by car) & has indoor & outdoor swimming pools open to the public (not available in August though).  Ringwood has a Recreation Centre with swimming pool which you can use in the summer.

There is a lovely park & riverbank area near the ancient bridge with a children's play area, paddling pool & part of the river known locally as 'the beach' where children can paddle & play in the water.

MOUNTAIN BIKING
The New Forest is a perfect place for mountain biking. You can bring your own bikes (& store them in the Games Barn when not needed). Bike hire is available nearby from Sandy Balls Holiday Village. I have mountain bike guide books that you can borrow.

MOORS VALLEY COUNTRY PARK
Highly recommended & just 15 minutes away (by car). This park has something for everyone from a miniature steam railway for younger children to the famous 'Go Ape' aerial trekking high above the forest floor for older children (& dads!)

OTHER PLACES TO VISIT
Lyndhurst, Burley, Brockenhurst, Lymington. Beaulieu (with its famous Motor Museum), Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Stonehenge, Romsey (Broadlands) and so many more places ........

The New Forest offers a great variety of places to eat, from classic hotel restaurants to the best of brasseries, the traditional English pub with real ales to the prettiest tea rooms with the most indulgent cream teas imaginable.

You can get a real taste of The New Forest by choosing local specialties identified by the New Forest Marque when you are dining out. By selecting local food that is fresh and in season, you will actually be helping the forest to stay special by supporting local farmers and small businesses. More and more pubs, restaurants and accommodation providers are sourcing local ingredients. The New Forest Marque helps people to choose food and goods which have been grown, reared, caught, brewed or produced in the New Forest. It also allows New Forest producers to market their produce under a collective and easily identifiable New Forest symbol, at the same time reassuring consumers about the origins of the food they are buying.

In order to qualify for the Marque, New Forest producers have to make sure that their goods meet stringent quality standards. Meat producers, for example, must show that very high standards of animal welfare & good husbandry have been applied at all times.
