Old Manor Holiday Cottages in Twyning, near Tewkesbury, are set in the grounds of The Old Manor. Stable Cottage sleeps 4 adults and The Loft House provides self catering accommodation for 2 people. Nick and Sue Lambert live at the Old Manor and take personal care of the holiday cottages. The Old Manor Twyning is also home to our flock of pedigree Ryeland Sheep and Buff Orpington Chickens. Homemade, freshly baked bread and homemade preserves are included in the holiday cottage welcome pack, together with our free range eggs and home grown produce, depending on the season.
Stable Cottage is a traditional English country cottage built in the 18th century. Stable Cottage offers a combination of period features and modern facilities to provide everything you need for a relaxing self catering holiday, short break, mid week break or weekend break - with flexible start dates.
Originally a stable and hay barn, this modern barn conversion provides spacious self catering accommodation for 2 people. The accommodation offers a bright, large living room with open plan kitchen and dining area and separate bedroom with a second lounge. The rooms have high ceilings with exposed wooden beams and all round views across the gardens towards Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and the Cotswold Hills. The Loft House is fully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing self catering holiday, short break, mid week break or weekend break. All towels, linen and household essentials are provided (soaps, dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls etc.) together with tea, coffee and some store cupboard basics. There are two village pubs within walking distance and plenty of pubs, cafes, restaurants and takeaways locally.
Twyning is a small Gloucestershire village dating back to before medieval times. A number of traditional black and white wooden frame buildings remain in the village together with traditional red brick houses like the Old Manor. Five minutes stroll from Old Manor Holiday Cottages is Twyning village green and the Village Stores, which sells a range of fresh, frozen and tinned produce including fresh bread and cakes, local meat, fruit and vegetables, wine, beers and newspapers. The Village Inn is at the far end of green and 2 minutes further on is the River Avon with an easy riverside walk along the Avon from Twyning into the centre of Tewkesbury.
A network of local footpaths are right on the doorstep with great views across to Bredon Hill and the Cotswolds. The River Avon runs between Twyning and Bredon and a ten minute drive through Tewkesbury takes you to Bredon and Bredon Hill - the climb is worth it for the great views of the Vale of Evesham and across the Severn Vale to the Malvern Hills. A health spa, fishing lake, horse riding and an 18 hole golf course are all within walking distance of the holiday cottages.
Just 3 miles from the holiday cottage is the historic medieval town of Tewkesbury with the impressive Tewkesbury Abbey (the largest surviving Norman tower in the world) and network of 30 ancient alleyways. The River Avon meets the River Severn in the centre of Tewkesbury where there are riverside walks, parks with riverside gardens, a marina, and boat trips available in peak season.
In 1471 The Battle of Tewkesbury was a major battle in the Wars of The Roses. To mark the event Tewkesbury Medieval Festival and battle re-enactment now takes place every July and is Europe's largest free annual medieval battle re-enactment and fayre. Nowadays visitors to Tewkesbury will find a traditional market town full of small specialist shops selling everything from exotic Persian rugs to local Tewkesbury Mustard.
Drive along the country lanes and you'll find traditional fruit orchards, pretty Cotswold stone villages, traditional black and white timbered cottages and great scenery. With beautiful countryside and a network of local footpaths on the doorstep its also the perfect setting for enjoying the outdoors - a peaceful riverside walk along the River Avon from Twyning to Tewkesbury or a walk up Bredon Hill or the Malvern Hills for great views across the Vale.
