Whether you’re holidaying in East Anglia or visiting Colchester on business, Castle Road Cottages offer the perfect blend of stylish accommodation and good location. The town centre is only a few minutes’ walk away and yet Castle Road itself is as leafy and peaceful as a country lane . . .
We provide everything you’ll need to make your visit as comfortable as possible – from the finest-quality towels and bed linen to complimentary tea, ground coffee and fresh fruit to welcome you after your journey. You can arrive and depart on any day of the week and we offer midweek/weekend breaks all year round, as well as special terms for stays of four weeks and longer.
Tucked away behind a quiet, tree-lined street, this one-time Quaker bakehouse is the perfect retreat for two. Under floor heating adds to the warm and intimate atmosphere, with a seductively snug lounge and a cosy kitchen/breakfast room. The state-of-the-art Bang & Olufsen sound system gives concert-quality music all over the house while the outdoor courtyard – with its magical concealed lighting – is perfect for long, leisurely summer evenings.
Upstairs, the Edwardian elegance of the bedroom (complete with finest English bed linen) is complemented by an exquisite marble bath/ shower room with soft, fluffy towels. Downstairs, Hope Cottage has a washer-drier, electric oven and gas hob, microwave, a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a full set of crockery, cutlery and glasses.
A classic Victorian artisan cottage, No 6 adjoins Colchester’s spacious Castle Park. With its lovingly restored period details – cast-iron fireplaces, stripped woodwork, antique furnishings and traditional bed linen – the cottage perfectly encapsulates the atmosphere of an earlier, less hurried era. The pretty back garden with table and chairs is sheltered and secluded and there is off-road parking by the side of the house.
The cottage sleeps three or four to suit your arrangements. Upstairs there is a double room (the bed can be configured as two singles if required), a single bedroom with 4ft French bed and a bathroom. There is a large and very comfortable sofa-bed downstairs for additional guests. In the living room there is a TV/DVD player and sound system, with a separate dining room for family meals and entertaining. The kitchen is fully equipped with a washer-drier, electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, crockery, cutlery and glasses.
Castle Road is located off East Hill in central Colchester,
right next to Castle Park and the famous Norman Castle. The town’s main bus
station is a couple of minutes’ walk away and Colchester railway station is a
ten-minute walk through the park.
To reach Castle Road, turn into Roman Road and continue into Castle Road, which
is one-way. The house numbers run consecutively – No 6 is at the top of the road
on the left and Hope Cottage (17 Castle Road) is a little further down, set back
from the road. A path leads to Hope Cottage from the gate between Nos 16 and 18
