Barnsdale Cottage is located a short drive away from historic National Trust properties such as Melford Hall, Kentwell Hall, The Guildhall of Corpus Christi, Paycocke’s and Flatford Mill famously know as the location of many of John Constable’s paintings.
 
Shalford village is nestled between some of the most revered ‘chocolate box’ villages in both Essex and Suffolk. Finchingfield and the villages of Clare and Lavenham are easily in reach. To enjoy traditional markets and country shopping guest have all their shopping needs catered for in the roman market towns of Great Dunmow and Saffron Walden, boasting traditional Fares and Carnivals, the most notable being the Great Dunmow ‘Flitch’ Trials. In addition, the surrounding villages offer a selection of Farm Shops and Farmers Markets for local and organic produce. The village is surrounded by beautiful country walks with views across the Shalford valley, woodlands, and farms lands. A 9 Hole Golf course set in the Towerlands Event Centre is just 2 miles way and a few miles further there is superb designer shopping at Freeport Designer Village.
 
Barnsdale Cottages convenient location provides easy access to the main towns of both Cambridge and Colchester for leisure, extensive shopping, and theatre facilities. To experience the sights of central London, ‘One Railways’ run direct from Braintree (4 miles distance) to central London (within 1 hour) or to the Suffolk costal towns. Stansted Airport is within 10 miles, making the village one of the most accessible locations to explore and enjoy the attractions of both East Anglia and London.

 

The Cottage... Barnsdale cottage provides a haven for relaxation and is very suited for those who enjoy rambling, bird watching, the English countryside and its traditional pubs and eateries.

Barnsdale cottage is excellent country retreat, set within the private gated grounds of our own property Barnsdale House, you are welcomed in to the cottage through the pretty court yard entrance and provided with plenty of space in your own secluded rear garden to relax under the gazebo and eat on the decking.
 
The cottage is newly refurbished to high standard and includes, one double bedroom, shower room, lounge and dinning area and a newly fitted kitchen and appliances. The well equipped kitchen provides for all guest needs and includes dishwasher, washing machine, oven, and microwave. In addition, Tassimo & espresso, coffee machines and electric steamer are provided for guest’s convenience.

 

In the shade of the hedgerows outside eating is a pleasure, walking through the French doors from the lounge guests will find comfortable garden furniture, a gas Barbeque and lighting all provided under the adjoining gazebo. Making enjoying summer evenings on the private decked area easy! Ample parking is provided for guests at the front of the property, behind private gates. For cooler evenings, the Lounge is warmed by a traditional log burner (logs provided) and provides all the usual home comforts for a cosy night in. A TV (freeview), DVD, and CD player with a variety of music, films, and wide selection of books are available for guest’s enjoyment.
 
Guests are invited to relax in the newly fitted Hot Tub and enjoy the garden both day and evening. Owls and Pheasants are frequent visitors and this is superb for soaking up bird song on warm summer evenings (A minimal weekly charge, robes & towels are provided but guests will need their own swim wear).
