The family-run farm surrounds 'the cottages' and each unit has
its own unique view of the River Crouch and surrounding countryside. It is a
prime location for walks in the 9 hectares of woodland planted in 2002 by the
River Crouch - home to an abundance of wildlife - or by the River Crouch, along
the sea-wall where you will be kept entertained by sailing boats going up and
down the river.
Every cottage of this 4-star establishment has stunning views over the
countryside and River Crouch. The individually designed kitchens enable you to
self-cater. Alternatively, Burnham-on-Crouch, only 3 miles away, offers a good
selection of top-class restaurants.
This is an ideal location for visiting the historical town of Maldon with its
quay bristling with activity, viewing the old sailing barges, based there or
just enjoying a relaxing meal watching the world go by.
The sailing town of Burnham-on-Crouch is just 3 miles away and houses 4 sailing
clubs, a Marina Museum and some excellent restaurants.
The beautiful RHS gardens of Hyde Hall
are some 25 minutes away - a pleasant way to spend the day.
Sports enthusiasts will value the proximity to 2 Golf Courses, (Three Rivers
Golf and Country Club and Creakvea Golf Club), Sailing Clubs and an Equestrian
centre (Elmwood Equestrian Centre).
All our holiday 'cottages' have 2 bedrooms and enjoy equal modern high
standards of furnishings and facilities with fully fitted kitchens - dishwasher,
washing machine and fridge-freezer.
The lounge has a TV with DVD player and CD/Radio.
Also provided: iron and ironing-board and an outside linen-line.
Outside: BBQ and seating provided.
Each 'cottage' is centrally heated and comprises 2 bedrooms, and a
kitchen/dining room/lounge area, a bathroom with shower. There is also ample
cupboard space.
Fresh linen and towels are provided.
One unit has been designed specifically for disabled users and includes a
wet-room bathroom and various features to ease access for wheelchair-users.
There is ample parking space for cars with boats and trailers and there is also
an area for hanging wet-weather gear.
Althorne Hall Cottages can also cater for large groups - i.e. Weddings or
Birthdays Parties.
Each one of the five cottages has its own individuality. The slightly different
characteristics of Holly, Mistletoe, Ivy, Periwinkle, and Thistle may guide your
choice - when availability permits.
Due to its upstairs position, at the far end of the converted barn,
Holly Cottage enjoys spectacular views over the River Crouch.
Its breakfast-bar has been praised by the early-risers and it offers the
advantage of a double sofa-bed for extra guests.
The vaulted ceilings give a feeling of light and space, making it the ideal type
of accommodation for those looking for a 'home from home' type of break.
Mistletoe Cottage is located on the ground-floor and offers
every comfort you could want, from tiled floorings to comfortable seating where
you can relax and watch DVDs.
One of the 2 bedrooms holds two double-beds (i.e. double bunk-beds, sleeping 4),
making it ideal for families with children or parties of up to 4 couples -
further bed-space is also provided by a sofa-bed.
Located on the ground-floor at the far-end, Ivy Cottage has the unique feature of French windows leading onto a decking area with panoramic views over the River Crouch.
Periwinkle Cottage Its upstairs position means it enjoys
vaulted ceilings Leather Chesterfields give this cottage a feel of real luxury.
The 2 bedrooms can sleep 4 to 6 people.
Periwinkle has the added bonus of ample storage space - for lots of luggage and
even more!
Thistle Cottage This 'cottage' is located on the
ground-floor and has been fully equipped for disabled access. Although suitable
for all, its tiled flooring, wet-room bathroom and wider doors make it a
welcoming choice for wheelchair users.
The first bedroom has one double-bed and the second bedroom offers double
bunk-beds (i.e. 2 x double beds).
