Ducktails is a charming traditional brick and flint cottage situated in the picturesque village of South Creake. It was converted from an old forge and is the middle of three cottages. It has a stream running in front of it, with a bridge for access.

Many of the original features of the old forge have been retained, which adds to the character of the cottage. Ducktails has a lovely beamed sitting room with an Inglenook fireplace. This contains a wood-burning stove, which makes it lovely and cosy in the winter.  There are also electric storage heaters both upstairs and downstairs.

Used by us as our own holiday and weekend cottage, Ducktails is furnished to a high standard and very well equipped. Everything in the cottage is new and the reclaimed pine furniture was made specially by a local craftsman. The whole cottage has just been redecorated and re-carpeted throughout.

The kitchen has everything needed to prepare both cordon bleu meals and barbecues. It also has a full sized dishwasher. The bathroom, which is downstairs, has a wide bath with a shower above it. It also has a heater for those cold winter days.

The two bedrooms are upstairs. The master bedroom has a double bed, large chest of drawers, wardrobe cupboard and bedside table. The twin bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers and bedside table.
To the rear of the cottage there is a fully enclosed garden with total privacy. The garden has a lawned area as well as a patio. Garden furniture and a barbecue is provided. It is very sheltered and a real sun trap.

A car is necessary to make the most of what this beautiful area has to offer. Private, off road parking is available to the rear of the cottage.

Bed linen and tea towels are provided. Please bring your own towels.

TV, DVD player and CD player are provided. There is a selection of board games and books.

All electricity and water is included in the price and plenty of logs are provided for the fire. Some people do find they need firelighters to get it going!

PETS  - One large, or two small, well behaved dogs are welcome. £15 per dog, per booking.

The damages deposit is £100. The property has a key safe to make it easier for guests to obtain the keys. It is vitally important that guests do not take the keys home with them, as the next guests will not then be able to gain access.

"We have just returned home at the end of a lovely week at Ducktails. Many thanks." - Leonard family, August 2006

"Ducktails Cottage is a very pretty, if bijou, property in a great location. As the parents of small children we appreciated the nearby new playground and visited the local pub, The Ostrich. A friendly pub with good food, but as with many of the pubs in North Norfolk, quite pricey. The cottage could have benefited from a washing machine, but apart from that, met our expectations and our girls loved fishing in the little stream running outside the front door. The decor is of good quality throughout and loved much of the artwork. "  - Jane Smith, August 2006

"We had a really good time, your cottage is very comfortable (except for the low door frames!!).  It was a shame that the weather was cold and rainy but that didn’t dampen our spirits as we still managed to get to the beach which the dogs thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you." - Beverly Cox, May 2006

"Ducktails was fantastic and not at all disappointing. We will certainly be recommending this cottage on to friends and will return ourselves. Nice location, cottage lovely, A1" - Stacey Pass & family, April 2006

"Had a lovely time, thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful cottage". - The Whyte Family, October 2005

"South Creake was lovely. Short drive to everywhere in Norfolk - enjoyed driving around the back roads to avoid traffic on the main coast road". - Evans Family, August 2005

"What a wonderfully appointed cottage! We loved the decor, paintings, and attention to detail in every way, a joy to be here". "Thank you for the pleasure & enjoyment of your lovely cottage". - Mary Lang, Alan Brompton, July 2005

"Enjoyed our holiday in South Creake and surrounding area. Heat wave and lovely well equipped cottage helped!" - Paula & Terry Lanning, June 2005

"Cottage was perfect and very homely" - Stuart, Carol and Penny from Norwich

"We have really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage - so well furnished & equipped" - Myra & Mike Clements from Scarborough, N. Yorkshire

"The cottage was ideal for us - very comfortable and well-equipped. Ideally situated" - Debbie, Kenny and Anna Blandford from Leigh on Sea, Essex

"Just to say what a wonderful time we had in this delightful cottage. Everything to hand. Just a few yards from the Pub down the road." - Peter & Ellen Marland, Lincoln

"We had a delightful week at Ducktails and you may be hearing from us next year about a return visit." - Aimee and Tom Kimbell

South Creake is a delightful village. Just along the road is a large playing field with a new, safe children's playground. There are public tennis courts about 50m away and the local pub, which is well known in the area for its ambience, delicious food and local ales is a short walk away. It is easy to access local walks straight from the cottage, especially good for those who bring their dog. There is cycle hire available in South Creake itself.

The area around South Creake has many high class restaurants and pubs to suit every taste.
About 10 minutes drive from the cottage is Burnham Market. This is a wonderful place to visit with lots of specialist shops and art galleries. There are many other lovely villages to visit such as Holt and Cley, each with its own character. The area really is a shopper's paradise with many specialist shops of all kinds.
There are many lovely countryside walks including the Peddars Way. The area is also renowned for its bird watching.
The famous shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, to which pilgrims come from all corners of the world, is nearby.

About 15 minutes drive away is the beautiful North West Norfolk coast. There are many beautiful, unspoilt, sandy beaches within easy reach and plenty of opportunities for sailing and other boating activities. There are also various boat trips available including seal-watching.

There are lots of activities to suit all age groups within easy driving distance for day trips. Some examples include Pensthorpe Wildlife Park , The High Ropes, Langham Glass, Letheringsett Flour Mill etc. There are lots of leaflets about things to do and maps of the area in the cottage.

Pubs and restaurants worth a visit

The area around South Creake is a real “foodies” paradise. There are lots of eateries to suit all tastes, ranging from cheap and cheerful pubs through to expensive Michelin starred establishments. We have tried all those below and would recommend any of them. It is usually a good idea to book in advance, even out of season.

THE OSTRICH INN, SOUTH CREAKE

01328 823320

This is your local! It is literally within crawling distance from the cottage. It has a very friendly atmosphere and excellent food, which is far more interesting than your average pub.

JOLLY FARMERS, NORTH CREAKE

01328 738185

In the next village, only 5 minutes drive away, is this great pub. It also has a great atmosphere and equally great food!

THE LORD NELSON, BURNHAM THORPE

01328 738241

This really is a must! Slightly further away ( 10 minutes!). A wonderful place with superb food.

THE HOSTE ARMS, BURNHAM MARKET

01328 738 777

Not only a fabulous restaurant for dinner, but also for wonderful afternoon tea, coffee and lunch. Beware the huge scones!

FISHES, BURNHAM MARKET

01328-738588

Probably one of the best fish restaurants you’ll ever go to! But you ALWAYS have to book well in advance.

THE VICTORIA AT HOLKHAM

01328 711008

Still only about 15 minutes drive, this is a great place with an atmosphere all its own. More excellent food!

THE LIFEBOAT INN, THORNHAM

01485 512236

Although this is further to drive, about 30 minutes, it is well worth the trip. It has bar food as well as an excellent restaurant.

THE OLD COACH HOUSE, THORNHAM

01485 512236

This is a pizzeria run by the same people as The Lifeboat Inn. Another great place to go. Great for the kids!

THE JOLLY SAILORS, BRANCASTER STAITHE

01485 210314

This friendly pub has a lovely garden for summer lunches.

TERROIR, CLEY

01263 740336

Previously known as The Café, but still under the same management, this is a fabulous place to go if you love vegetables. But it is NOT a vegetarian restaurant in the usual sense of the word. The food is fantastic and, as a real meat lover, I still loved it! They just don’t use meat out of choice. It is quite a drive though, about 30 minutes.

THE CORNER HOUSE, WELLS

01328 710701

This is a great place to go either for dinner or just a drink. It is a wine bar and restaurant, that has live music on Fridays and Saturdays. The atmosphere’s great, as is the food!

BYFORDS, HOLT

01263 711400

This is a fantastic delicatessen which also has a café and restaurant. They serve all sorts from light lunches to full evening meals. A good place for lunch whilst enjoying the shopping in the charming Georgian town of Holt . The jazz evenings are a must!

MORSTON HALL, MORSTON

01263 741041

This is the only restaurant with both 3 red rosette's and Michelin Star award within a 50 mile radius. It is absolutely superb. But book VERY early. It took us about three tries to get in!

There are many more places to go, that we have not yet tried.
