Many of our visitors, at least for some of the time, take
advantage of The Old Coastguards unique location to just relax - sitting on the
quarterdeck or in the garden with a book and a glass of wine. Cricket, badminton
or boule on the lawn, kite flying, fossil hunting, sunbathing, swimming or
fishing on the beach promotes a little more blood flow; whilst walking in any of
three directions from the cottage at a pace and distance to suit yourself
affords a wide variety of stunning views, birds, flowers and wildlife.
Your hosts Cheryl and John Varley are always willing to suggest places to visit
or to sample some of the really good eating in the area and we keep an
information pack in each cottage. If in advance of your stay you would like to
see something of what the area has to offer we have included pages on Golf,
Birds, Sailing, Fishing, Walking and Eating
The Old Coastguards is within easy reach of the Abbotsbury Children's Farm and Smugglers Barn, the Swannery and Sub-tropical Gardens and all the special attractions that West Dorset has to offer children in the area of Bridport, Weymouth and Dorchester.
More importantly in our view and of generations of young children staying with us
(many of them now bringing their own children), is what makes The Old Coastguards so special and memorable for young children: the experience of what might be described as “traditional family holiday values” which build relationships and develop a child's interest in the world around us.
The Old Coastguards offers children all these and many more experiences that precious holiday memories are made of : increasingly hard to find in our modern world.
