Cardsmill, Charmouth, Dorset
Cardsmill Farm Holidays offer a choice of Self-catering
accommodation on family working farms in the Marshwood Vale.
The main farm at Cardsmill is 598 acres and has a dairy herd of 210 milking cows
that are milked twice daily. All the calves born here are reared for beef and
some store cattle are purchased each year. During the late winter and spring
about 700 ewes have their baby lambs. This makes a very interesting sight to see
them in the sheds or playing in the fields.
Crops of fodder maize, wheat or barley and grass crops are grown for winter feed, so lots of seasonal jobs to watch. Taphouse and Courthouse Farms each have beef cattle in the sheds in the autumn and winter months and sheep and cattle in the fields during the summer months.
The farms are inspected annually by ABM / FABBL Beef and Lamb
Scheme and National Dairy Farm Assurance Scheme for milk production.
Guests can wander around or go on guided tours to see the milking, calves, beef
and sheep and ask questions!!!
The Johnson family welcomes guests to stay in this rural, quiet, picturesque
part of West Dorset , an area of outstanding natural beauty.
