Nestling in 14 acres of Peak District National Park, this was
a position chosen for one of the earliest settlements in Derbyshire.
Here in 1259 Sir Richard de Hartle was issued a Papal Bull by Pope Alexander II
allowing him to appoint his own chaplain, and what was the original Hall House
became a Chapel and was used as a place of worship until 1546.
Surrounding the Hall's dramatic cobbled courtyard, the listed buildings have
been carefully converted with much thought and consideration being taken to
retain many of the original features.
These include massive oak beams; mullion windows and flag stone floors, the
interiors are bold and furnished with antiques collected by the owners Nicola
and Peter Bunting. Peter is a noted antique dealer.
Harthill Hall's luxury holiday cottages and leisure facilities have the
treasures of Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House close by, and are just three miles
from the historic market town of Bakewell in the heart of the peak District
National Park.
All this makes Harthill Hall's central location ideal for exploring the wonders
of the Peak District, taking a tranquil holiday or a short mini holiday break.
You can explore the wonderful local scenery on foot or by bicycle, visit beauty
spots such as the Derwent Dams, or take a tour with Peak Premier Travel, who
organise tours of the local sights.
You can also explore local customs such as Well Dressings. This is unique to the
area and consists of works of art made of petals and other natural materials. In
long-past times these were made annually to bless the water supply. Now each
local village makes its own annual well dressing and they are a popular tourist
attraction.
