Penfound Lodge is a  self-catering holiday cottage situated on a working dairy farm in Poundstock, near the coastal town of Bude in North Cornwall.

The cottage captures a true rural feel and enjoys an uninterrupted views over distant rolling countryside from it's rear conservatory which overlooks a large lawn and orchard, which is often occupied by two Shetland ponies, Sugar and Spice!

The well equipped single storey barn conversion can accommodate up to 4 persons, is sensitively furnished to a high standard with the property reflecting its farm heritage and has been awarded a 3 star rating by Enjoy England and the English Tourism Council.

While on the farm you can feed the two friendly ponies, you can enjoy a walk around the farm grounds where you might meet the baby lambs and calves and there are ancient woodland full of wildlife to explore. You might also see the dairy cows coming in for their daily milking.

The holiday cottage is just 3 miles from the sandy beaches of award winning Widemouth Bay, with it's mile long stretch of flat sand, which is renowned for it's high quality surfing and dramatic cliff top walks. 

A 10 minute drive takes you in to the lively seaside town of Bude with its abundance of gift shops, surf shops, more beaches, restaurants and pubs, 18 hole golf course, 10 pin bowling, outdoor sea water pool and of course Cornish pasties and cream tea cafes.

While in North Cornwall visit the nearby historical and picturesque villages of Boscastle and Tintagel which is surrounded in the magic and legends of King Arthur. 

The historic fishing village of Clovelly is not far away in North Devon with it's much untouched environment.

Further down the coast you can find the world renowned and spectacular Eden Project, for all you plant lovers.  There are hundreds of things for families with children to do including the theme parks, cycle paths, or you may fancy a day out on Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor to name a few.

The holiday cottage is situated on a working dairy farm in Poundstock, Nr Bude in North Cornwall.  Penfound Lodge can sleep up to 4 people with it's 2 bedrooms ( 1 double and 1 twin) and the property overlooks the wonderful countryside.  The cottage is high standard accommodation and is just 5 minutes from the nearest beach and cliff tops and has been awarded a 3 star rating by Enjoy England and the English Tourism Board.  As the cottage is all on one level it can cater for people with disabilities to an extent, but please contact us to discuss. 

With it's large gardens and tranquil surroundings the holiday cottage is ideal for kids.  Sorry,  but we do not cater for pets at our cottage.

A very much unspoilt area of the South West, Penfound Lodge itself overlooks beautiful countryside where you can relax and enjoy your holiday.  The property is just a 5 minute drive from the Widemouth Bay beach and a 10 minute drive to the seaside town of Bude. You're never far from the hundreds of attractions in the area and there is always something to do for all family members.  

From The North....
Travel South towards Cornwall and get on the M5 (signposts will probably say South West). Continue on the M5 until you go just past Exeter services, about 3 miles on you will need to branch off left and merge on to the A30 (signposted Bodmin, Okehampton). Continue on the A30 for approx 45 miles, past the Launceston turnoffs until you reach Kennards House, branch off left (signposted North Cornwall, Wadebridge), then at the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A395 (signposted North Cornwall), then at the next roundabout take the 1st exit on to the A395 (signposted Hallworthy, Camelford), continue on this road for about 8 miles entering Hallworthy, Turn right on to the B3262 (signposted Bude). At the next T-junction, about 2 miles on, turn right on to the A39 (signposted Bude), continue on the A39 for about 10 miles until you reach Poundstock.  As you come in to Poundstock you will come to like a cross roads where you will need to turn right (signposted Week Orchard), with 'Bangors Organic' on your right.  Go through Poundstock estate and after 3/4 mile you will reach the farm 'Penfound Farm'. Again at the four crossways, turn right in to the farm and continue past the two entrances on the right until you get to a large wooden front gate on your right.  You have reached your destination and welcome. 

 

From The South....
To get to us from Penzance, please travel on the A30 (signposted Redruth), after about 10 miles you will get to Chiverton Cross roundabout where you need to take the 4th exit (signposted Bodmin). At Carland Crooss roundabout take the 1st exit on the A30 (signposted Bodmin).  Branch left, then at Highgate Hill junction take the 1st exit on to the A39 (signposted Wadebridge, Newquay A392).  At Halloon roundabout take the 3rd exit on to the A39 (signposted Wadebridge).  Continue towards Wadebridge for about 10 miles through a couple more roundabouts, past Tregonings Garage, Wadebridge until you get to the next roundabout which you will need to take 2nd exit A39 (signposted Bude).  Continue on this road for about 22 miles going through St.Kew Highway, Camelford and Wainhouse Corner until you reach Poundstock.  As you travel through Poundstock, you will go round a left hand sweeping bend and at the top of this bend you will see a large stone wall to a property on your right. At the cross roads here, turn right, (signposted Week Orchard), 'Bangors Organic' is the property on your right.  Go through Poundstock estate and after 3/4 mile you will reach the farm 'Penfound Farm'. Again at the four crossways, turn right in to the farm and continue past the two entrances on the right until you get to a large wooden front gate on your right.  You have reached your destination and welcome. 

'Penfound Lodge' holiday cottage is just minutes from the wonderful beaches of Widemouth Bay, renowned for it's glorious surfing conditions, golden sands and spectacular cliff top walks.  There are two main beaches here at Widemouth Bay.  A bit further on and you enter the seaside town of Bude which has another two beaches to go along with it's wonderful gift shops, restaurants, pubs, 18 hole golf course, and cafes where you can enjoy a Cornish cream tea or Cornish pasty.  The town has one of only a couple of outdoor sea swimming pools in the whole of the country.  A great entertainment venue for all the family is Harlequins where you can enjoy ten pin bowling, indoor go-karting, and for the younger kids, there is a huge indoor soft play area with slides and ball pools.  Harlequins is also right next to 'The Splash' , the towns swimming pool with spa area.  Down by the canal you can enjoy the recreation ground with a game of tennis, bowls or crazy golf, or just take a stroll or cycle along the canal paths.

A bit further a field and you can visit the attractive villages of Boscastle, Crackington Haven, Tintagel and Clovelly..  Boscastle and Crackington Haven were recently subject to unwanted national news when the storms of 2004 demolished the area. With help though, these villages have been restored and are back to their previous unspoilt best. Tintagel is surrounded with history with its legends of King Arthur and the knights of the round table.

You can visit the world renowned Eden Project which is just a 50 minute drive away.  Padstow is home to the celebrity seafood chef Rick Stein. Visit one of his eating establishments for a glorious meal.  Newquay is about an hour away and is the most visited destination in Cornwall.  Renowned for it's surfing and extreme sports and general extreme behaviour, Fistral beach is one of the best surfing beaches in Europe and attracts the top surfers from all around the world.  Local attractions include Newquay Zoo, the Blue Reef Aquarium and Newquay Water World.

Other great tourist attractions throughout Cornwall include Crealy Great Adventure Park, The Flambards Experience, Goonhilly Earth Station Experience Brocklands Adventure Park, Tate Modern Gallery at St.Ives, Morwellham Quay, and The Lost Gardens Of Heligan to name just a few.

For cycling lovers you can go to Wadebridge where there is a 16 mile cycle path, 'The Camel Trail', specifically built for cyclists, one way takes you right in to Padstow or go in the opposite direction and ride to Bodmin.

If you like, just stay at the holiday cottage and relax in the large quiet garden with it's superb rolling countryside views.  You can feed one of the two Shetland ponies nearby, Sugar and Spice and in spring time see and feed the lambs.  You can also take a walk around the area and down in to the ancient woodlands.
