Blaen Glasgwm Isaf

This self catering cottage is attached to our small farmhouse which is set in about 5 acres of land surrounded by farmland and forest. The cottage is in the Snowdonia National Park about 6 miles from Betws-y-Coed in North Wales.

The cottage is a tastefully converted stone barn with a Welsh slate roof which offers comfortable self catering accommodation for two. The cowshed, which is now the living room and kitchen/dining area dates back to the early 17th century. A roof truss from this period is still in place and miraculously has some bark on it. The cart-shed and hay barn were added on around the 1880’s.

All the rooms have high beamed ceilings so as to retain the character and feel of the original barn. we used as much reclaimed material as we could to keep the feeling of period living. The cottage has full under floor central heating, double glazing and is insulated for 21st century comfort.

There is parking next to the front door. In front of the cottage there is a picnic table, garden chairs, a garden bench and barbeque, as well as a private riverside garden.

The cottage is in a very peaceful, quiet, rural location and perfect for getting away from it all. We are less than 15 minutes drive from the attractive town of Betws-y-Coed which has a range of shops, friendly pubs and restaurants.

The cottage is conveniently located for visiting attractions and for sightseeing in Snowdonia and the rest of North Wales. Within easy reach there are fine beaches, castles, places of historic and botanic interest. North Wales is wonderful for leisure activities such as walking, horse riding, mountain biking, climbing, golf, bird watching, canoeing, mountaineering and fishing.

In the lounge area there is an inglenook fireplace which was built with local field stone. The beam is green oak, from the Conwy valley. The original doorways to the cowshed are now the two window-seats. There is a cast-iron multi-fuel stove with initial supplies of coal and wood provided. The floor is reclaimed beech woodblock.

The kitchen area was hand made from oak and beech. The floor is slate reclaimed from the hay barn.

There is a comfortable double bedroom with period oak furniture. The window seat was the original doorway into the hay barn.

The bathroom has a bath with shower over, loo, bidet, wash hand basin and heated towel rail. There is a clothes airer above the bath as well as an airing cupboard over the boiler in the hall. The bathroom and hall used to be the cart shed.

The cottage is set in a quiet and peaceful secluded valley in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, and is ideal for those seeking a relaxing self catering break. The many facilities offered by Betws-y-Coed are just 6 miles from the cottage. The scenery is stunning, and there is a stream running past the cottage.

The cottage is ideally located for exploring Snowdonia and the whole of North Wales, with numerous attractions within easy reach. There are numerous activities that you can do in the area, including walking, climbing, fishing, mountain biking, golf and horse riding.

Cyclists of all levels can join the Penmachno mountain bike trail. This is a dedicated single-track trail that has been built to national standards and is only a few minutes ride from the cottage. There is secure covered storage attached to the cottage.
