Enjoy the unique experience of this cedarwood chalet set within its own garden and nestling on the sunny slopes of the enchanting and beautiful Lamorna valley. The cove and beach are only a ten minute stroll down a wooded lane to the sea passing the old mill and The Lamorna Wink pub on the way. The stream tumbles over boulders and runs the entire length of the valley to complete the perfect picture. It is a holiday haven for those who enjoy the peace and tranquility of the traditional Cornish way of life
Lamorna is a magical place where the lush valley and tumbling stream leads down to the turquoise waters of the small rocky cove. An old quay still stands which is used for occasional fishing and the wooded slopes above the cove are strewn with huge granite boulders the only remnants of the now silent quarry. From here take a short stroll up to the old mill near Bossava. In the early 1900's Lamorna was the home to many famous artists such as Lamorna Birch, Dame Laura Knight, Augustus John and Alfred Munning to name but a few. It is a central location for walkers as the coastal path goes in one direction to Mousehole and in the other to Porthcurno and local transport provides convenient links to many other walks in the area. The towns of Penzance, St.Ives and St.Just are a short drive away and provide a wealth of holiday activities and sights for you to enjoy.
Mousehole
The picture postcard village of Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel) is a two mile
walk from Lamorna along a stunningly beautiful stretch of the coastal path. It
is a quaint fishing village with tiny winding streets and a little semi-circular
harbour cluttered with brightly coloured boats. It was in Mousehole that lived
Dolly Pentreath reputedly the last person to speak the Cornish language as her
natural tongue.
Nanjizel and
Lands End
Land's End is the most westerly point in Britain and is only a short drive from
Lamorna. This remains a great beauty spot with its staggering cliffs and
Longships lighthouse not far offshore. As well as the many holiday tourist
attractions there is a wide expanse of open cliff top where it is possible to
escape to virtual solitude amongst the sea pinks. From here there is a glorious
walk to the south that will take you to breathtaking Nanjizel Bay. It is a
perfect spot to spend some hours on a warm sunny day and if the tide is out
there is a sandy beach to explore.
Porthcurno
A mornings walk along the coast from Lamorna leads you to the idyllic cove
at Porthcurno where the golden white shell sands slope gently to meet the azure
blue of the sea. The Museum of Submarine Telegraphy is located here. It was
formally a wartime communications centre and is housed in a series of tunnels
set in the cliffs and contains a unique collection of historical equipment which
dates back to the 1870's. Two hundred feet above the beach the natural
amphitheatre of the Minack is hewn out of the cliff side. The sea provides a
perfect backdrop for the many and varied productions that are performed here
during the summer.
