Millpond Cottage is a fully restored quaint farmhouse located on a secluded part of a working farm on the outskirts of Menai Bridge. Geese and ducks swim on the adjacent pond while cattle, ponies and sheep graze the surrounding fields. A babbling river runs either side of the patio area which is securely fenced. The cottage boasts magnificent panoramic views over pastureland and the Snowdonia mountain range in the distance.

The cottage is ideally located for exploring all that this fantastic part of the world has to offer – there are blue flag beaches, mountains, castles, National Trust properties, bridleways, golf courses and plenty of indoor attractions to appeal to everybody, all within only a few miles from the front door. For the more adventurous there is every kind of water sports available. (See item 5 on the extra facilities page).

We would recommend the use of a car on your holiday to make the most of the area. Although the cottage is rurally situated, the bustling town of Menai Bridge is only 2.5 miles away with all the amenities (supermarket, post office, churches etc.) to be found there. The nearest pub is The Four Crosses which is only just over a mile as is the award winning Wales Indian Restaurant of the year 2007.

The larger town of Bangor is 6 miles away with a railway station and we are perfectly located for the A55 to take you to all major motorways only 2.5 miles from the door.

About the house

The cottage has been recently completely refurbished to the highest standard (completed in January 2009) and can now comfortably sleep 6 people or 8 people with the use of a sofa bed in the second lounge area. It is fully centrally heated and equipped to meet everybody’s needs. The décor has been kept bright to give a spacious feel to all the rooms and the living area on the ground floor is especially sociable being open plan on an L shape to include the kitchen, dining area and lounge. It is from these rooms that the best views can be appreciated over the surrounding countryside and the double patio doors can be wide open in the summer or closed with curtains pulled for a snug feel in the winter. Adjoining this room is a carpeted second lounge which is cosy and quiet but also has a small TV, games and stereo.

There is a bedroom with en-suite shower and toilet on the ground floor. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms, one double and one twin, and a main bathroom off the landing where a bookcase houses an assortment of books.

There are 3 entrances to the cottage, a main door into the second lounge, the patio doors at the back of the property or the most useful access being that into the utility area which also has a separate W.C. room just inside the entrance.

The patio area is very peaceful and private and perfect for lounging in the sunshine close to the inviting hot tub and overlooking the splendid views.

Our little corner of Wales is a unique place with a bewildering range of places to see and things to do, and, when the batteries need recharging, first class places to eat and drink. Being situated above the village of Menai Bridge Millpond Cottage is the perfect base for exploring not lust Anglesey, but the whole region. Also, being less than 5 minutes off the main A55 expressway it's easily accessible from pretty much everywhere, though a world away from anywhere!

From keen golfer to hardcore rock climber you can find it all in this area.

Anglesey boasts no less than eight Golf courses, each with their own unique flavour, from the championship links course of Bull Bay to the open moorland course of Baron Hill (not far from Millpond Cottage itself!). Golf has a huge following in the area, and don't forget Wales will be hosting the Ryder Cup in 2010.You can buy a pass that gives you access to the 5 premier courses here.

Walkers are hugely spoilt for choice, the highly popular Anglesey Coastal Path takes in some of the most breathtaking scenery anywhere in the UK from the towering cliff faces in the north of the island to the stunning beauty of the 'Tunnicliffe Country' around Malltraeth, a bird watchers paradise. Venture across the bridge and Snowdonia opens up. The national park has some of the most varied walking in the UK, and one of it's highest peaks, Snowdon itself. From easy valley strolls to the challenge of the classic scrambles of Crib Goch (stunning, but not for the inexperienced!) and Tryfan's infamous North Ridge you'll be glad you packed your boots.

Being an island, Anglesey is a Mecca for water sports enthusiasts. Around it's coast you'll find people diving, sea kayaking, sailing, wind surfing even kite surfing! Fishing charters are widely available and there are numerous boat yards, chandlers and tackle shops. If this all sounds a bit too energetic we've got countless miles of clean sandy beaches!

It's not all mountains and sea, this area has world class visitor attractions. No less than three of Wales' impressive castles; Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Conwy are within easy reach of Millpond Cottage.

A stroll through the famous Laburnam arch at Bodnant Garden is one of lifes real pleasures, especially combined with a visit to the Victorian shopping arcades at elegant Llandudno. For elegance and a rare glimpse of the splendour of a bygone age, a visit to the gardens and house at Plas Newydd is hard to beat. Although still the residence of the Marquis of Anglesey, the house is now in the care of the National Trust and is reputed to have been the site of the Roman invasion of the island and their battleground with the ancient Druids.

Glimpses of an older and more mysterious Anglesey can be had all over the island, standing stones, ancient hut circles and cromlechs dot the countryside. Particularly fine are the famous burial chambers at Bryn Celli Ddu and Barclodiad y Gawres with it's Neolithic rock carvings and the Iron Age village at Din Lligwy. Keen historians will also enjoy the islands' historic churches (some dating back to the 6th century), the 'Martian' landscape of the historic Parys Mountain copper mines(and it's pretty little harbour in Amlwch Port) and the chance to visit Llynnon Mill, a genuine working windmill.

A short hop across the Menai Straits kids (of all ages!) love the Greenwood Centre, with its adventure area of stilts and mazes, the chance to try your hand at ancient crafts (try shooting a real Welsh Longbow!) and sample the delights of its Herb Gardens, woodland walks and superb cafe. A visit not to be missed.

Anglesey is rightly famous for the superb produce of its farms and its waters. Its excellent seafood is in high demand as far afield as the Philippines and its salt marsh lamb is much sought after. For it's extraordinary range of local products Hootons Farm Shop in Brynsiencyn is foodie heaven. If you are lucky enough to be here when the Asparagus is in season it's a world class treat. Unlikely as it may seem we even have our own vineyard on the island in Llanbadrig on the north coast.

All of this local produce makes for excellent places to eat it, the newly refurbished White Eagle at Rhoscolyn has a menu rich in local specialities in a beautiful rural setting. They also boast a fine range of Welsh beers and a quality (and sensibly priced) wine list. Closer to Millpond Cottage is the celebrated Ye Olde Bulls Head in Beaumaris. the cosy oak panelled bar gives way to a choice of dining areas, the bustling, airy downstairs bistro is hugely popular with locals and visitors alike and always boasts a good choice for veggies as well as confirmed carnivores. The elegant upstairs restaurant has had numerous great reviews in the national press and has near legendary status for the quality of its food cooked in a modern British style, making great use of local produce.
